Weekly Newsletter

We are in the final week of school in 2018!  Time sure has a way of flying by when you’re having fun.  This will be a fun and busy week at Miller.  This week is spirit week.  Each day your child participates we are asking for $1 donation to go towards the children of Yemen fundraiser.  Today is hat day, Wednesday is sports team day, Thursday is red/green day, and Friday is pajama day and for my class I am also allowing blankets.  Please show your school spirit while donating to a wonderful cause.  Here is what we will be focusing on this week.

Math:  We will be adding with regrouping and estimating sums.

Science:  We will continue to track daily weather.  It would be a good idea to have your child watch the weather report on the evening news each night.

Social Studies:  We will be learning about economic growth in Michigan including farming, lumbering, and mining.

Reading:  We are shifting our focus back to literature.  This week will study the structure of stories, poems, and dramas.

Writing:  We will finish publishing our informational books and have a book celebration by sharing them with our classmates.

This is our last week before our winter break.  We will return to school on January 7th.  I encourage all students to go on I-Ready and Zearn everyday for at least 20 minutes to maintain the learning we have done all year. Those websites will be monitored to see who is logging in the most time.  There just might be a special prize for the top readers and mathematicians.  When we return, we will be taking our mid-year assessments on I-Ready and NWEA, so going on those sites consistently is a great way to increase scores.  I wish all of you a blessed holiday season and a very happy new year! See you in 2019!
