Weekly Focus

Reading: This week we will be working on recounting stories in different genres (fables, myths, and folktales).

  • RL3.2 Recount stories, including fables, folktales, and myths from diverse cultures; determine the central message, lesson, or moral and explain how it is conveyed through key details in the text.                                        

Writing: This week we will be continue working on narrative writing. We will be publishing our writing.

  • W3.3 Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, descriptive details.

Math: Students will understand how to model division as the unknown factor in multiplication using arrays and tape diagrams and Interpret the quotient as the number of groups or the number of objects in each group using units of 2.

 

  • 3.OA.4 Determine the unknown whole number in a multiplication or division equation relating three whole numbers. For example, determine the unknown number that makes the equation true in each of the equations 8 × ? = 48, 5 = _ ÷ 3, 6 × 6 = ?.
  • 3.OA.7 Fluently multiply and divide within 100, using strategies such as the relationship between multiplication and division (e.g., knowing that 8 × 5 = 40, one knows 40 ÷ 5 = 8) or properties of operations. By the end of Grade 3, know from memory all products of two one-digit numbers.
  • 3.OA.5 Apply properties of operations as strategies to multiply and divide.

 

Science: This week we are learning how to provide evidence of the effects of balanced and unbalanced forces on the motion of an object.  Our focus question is What cause change of motion?

  • 3-P2-1 Plan and conduct an investigation to provide evidence of the effects of balanced and unbalanced forces on the motion of an object.

Social Studies: We will continue our unit on Geography of Michigan. Students we will be learning about the physical and human characteristics of Michigan.

  • G1.0.2:Use thematic maps to identify and describe the physical and human characteristics of Michigan

 

Please turn in field trip money and permission slips by Wednesday, September 19th.
