Things to know about your child’s HIGH SCHOOL OPTIONS

Parents, did  you know that Dearborn Public Schools offers several options for 8th graders and their families to consider besides the traditional high school experience. Read below and see the counselor for any questions.

What are my high school options?

  • Henry Ford Early College – Henry Ford Early College is a unique five year early college program that gives students the opportunity to attain both a high school diploma and a two-year healthcare-related Associate Degree in five years at no cost to the student or parent.
  • Michael Berry Career Center – Students at MBCC can choose from Career and Technical Education Programs in Design Technology (Drafting, Software or Design Concepts), Medical/Health (Allied Health, Dental Assisting, Medical Assisting and Sports Med/Rehab) or Restaurant Hospitality. Students attend their home high school as well as MBCC.
  • Collegiate Academy – The Collegiate Academy is a partnership with Henry Ford Community College to offer students the opportunity to earn both a high school diploma and a two-year Associate Arts or Science Degree in five years at no cost to parents or students. Students enter the three year program at the beginning of their junior year.

A message to our Families.

Ways to stay connected with your child’s academics

1. Parent Connect: Checking this at least once a week because apon doing this you can discover so many important things

2. Student Connect: Letting your child know that you expect them to check their Student Connect on a DAILY basis. This is a great way for them to learn how to communicate early with teacher if they are failing a class.

3. Check the school blog for updates and happenings

4. Commnicate with teacher via emails or letters for any concerns EARLY on.

The Power of Communication

Dear Families, please help me to make sure we let the students know how important it is to communicate with the teachers.  Commnication can be about grades, student connect, extra credit opportunities, missing assignments, behavior, needing help or anthing like this.  Remind your child to take ownership of their education by doing things as mentioned and going on Student Connect as often as possible.

Thank you!

A message from the DEARBORN PUBLIC LIBRARY

Good morning Families – I just wanted to alert you to a new library policy recently approved by the Dearborn Public Library

All students of middle school or high school age must produce a student ID upon request. The purpose is to provide identification for both the safety of the students and as an avenue toward accountability for behavior.

In December, however, we will require students to have identification.  Library staff will not be able to ask all students, but will do random checks and those students who are asked for their I.D. and do not have it, will be asked to leave the library until they bring their I.D. with them.  In addition, during the finals study time, we will follow the same rules as we did in June.  Students must be accompanied by parent or guardian.  More information will be forthcoming later this year.

Thank you for your assistance.
