Tuesday, March 31- Day 12 Online Learning

Good morning!!!!!! Today’s Spirit Week challenge- send a picture of something you have made! (art, food, etc.) I will share mine later today.

Here are some of our friends’ photos from yesterday:

I love it so much! Thanks for sharing everyone 🙂

A couple quick notes for today–
Mrs. Thomas is posting information on her blog for art if you are interested! She is also willing to meet with anyone who needs help with their PBL projects. If you would like to meet with her through Google Hangouts, send her an email!

Also, Mrs. Sabbagh wanted to be sure this message was shared with all parents: The third card marking ended officially on March 27. However, report cards will only reflect work completed up until March 12 (the last day we were in school in person).

Finally, keep up the excellent work on your assignments! Students– I know I keep saying it, but I am so proud of your commitment to school during this time. A few of you need to get caught up on Zearn, but most of us are just where we should be. I know that fractions can be tricky. I encourage you to keep trying your very best- watch the videos, watch the tutorials, use your homework helper, and reach out if there is a particular problem that is tricking you.

Keep checking my feedback on ReadWorks and Flocabulary, and keep checking the calendar. You are all awesome and I am just an email away 🙂

Monday, March 30- Day 11 Online Learning

Yay! It was so nice to see and chat with so many of you again today- thank you for joining. We also got to see some amazing animal projects. Thank you Celine, Abraham, and Xavier for sharing. Celine is also going to share some pictures of her diorama with me.

Don’t forget virtual spirit week!!!! Today’s challenge is to post a picture of you and your pet or you and a stuffed animal. Bo is at my parents’ house, but here are a few cute pictures of him that I took before. Send me yours and I will post them later tonight or tomorrow!!

One quick change to the calendar this week- you do NOT need to do the ‘create your own business’ economic project. We will save that for later. So you can ignore that part of the calendar- spread the word!

Today’s math video:

As always, do your BEST with the problem set while watching the video, focus really hard on Zearn, and try the homework. It doesn’t have to be perfect. You are all showing integrity when you do your best even though it’s tricky and your teacher isn’t right with you!!

You also have your normal reading activities and Read Works- see the calendar. 🙂

Virtual Sprit Week and Chat Tomorrow!

I will post more info tomorrow regarding our weekly assignments, but I wanted to let you know that Dearborn High and its feeder schools are doing a virtual spirit week! This includes Howard! Each day next week, send me a photo of you showing your spirit, and I will add it to the blog. 🙂 You can email me, send it to me on Dojo, or whatever method you prefer. I will be participating too!

Also, I will be hosting a chat tomorrow through Google Hangouts at around 11:30. I will post the link just before and you can feel free to join!

Last but not least, Mrs. Meyer is our district music resource teacher, and she is posting music lessons on her blog if you are interested! https://iblog.dearbornschools.org/duvallmusic/

Mrs. Ventura also is encouraging you to continue to submit your recorder videos to Google Classroom 🙂

Talk to you tomorrow!

Friday, March 27- Day 10 Online Learning

HI everyone! We made it through 2 whole weeks of online learning. Yay! I hope you will all have a relaxing weekend with your families. On today’s agenda:

Reading: “Branching Out” on ReadWorks, read 30 minutes, and respond to prompt in the calendar.

Math: Lesson 20 Zearn, Lesson 20 problem set with video, and Lesson 20 Homework.

Science: Keep working on your PBL projects and your ecosystem dioramas!! Here is a picture of Celine’s finished dolphin project 🙂 it looks amazing!!

Last but not least, we will do another chat on Monday. Let’s plan on 11:30 again. This time, we will be using Google Hangouts/Google Meet, as that is the program our district supports for using with students.

I will post more information on how to do that Monday morning. 🙂

Thank you, students and parents, for your continued hard work and support during these unusual times! It makes me so happy and proud to see all of the hard work you have been putting in. I miss you all. Talk to you soon!

Thursday, March 26- Day 9 Online Learning

Hi! It looks like another beautiful day out. Yesterday I was able to take a very long walk with my mom! Today maybe I will walk to the bakery by my house with Mr. Nosewicz.

What’s on today’s calendar agenda? Check out Day 9….

Reading: Work on Main Idea Flocabulary, read 30 minutes, respond to the prompt in the calendar.

Math: Zearn Lesson 19, watch tutorial!! Do Problem Set with the Eureka Math video, try your best with the Succeed pages. Homework solutions are linked on my blog.

Science: How are your dioramas and PBL projects coming along? Celine shared a great picture of her dolphin project yesterday. I’ll ask her if it’s okay to post. Celine, if you’re reading this, let me know 🙂

Thank you all for trying your best each and every day!! I miss you and am proud of you. I’ve gotten some positive feedback about our Zoom chat, so we will plan on doing another chat next week, probably Monday.

Talk to you all soon!!

Wednesday March 25, Day 8 Online Learning

Hi everyone! I hope you are well.

Today’s agenda– keep following the calendar!

Reading: Read 30 minutes, respond to the calendar prompt, ReadWorks: Up to Speed.

Math: Zearn Lesson 18, watch video and do Problem Set, try Succeed Pages

Science: Keep working on that diorama and/or art project! Send me photos!

Please keep doing your best and don’t hesitate to reach out to me!! I hope you are all doing well- you have been a little quieter this week. 🙂 Maybe you are starting to get a little sad or bored, and that’s normal- but remember there is lots to do! And the sun is shining today!! I have been talking to lots of friends and family, and that always brightens my day. Stay well!

Tuesday, March 24 (day 7 online learning)

Hi boys and girls!! I was hoping to see the sun today, but hopefully I can still get outside for a long walk.

I really enjoyed talking to everyone on the chat yesterday!! It was nice to see your faces and hear your voices!! We can do another one next week if you would like.

Today’s agenda:

Reading: Work on Main Idea Flocabulary, read 30 minutes, answer the prompt in the calendar for Day 7. If anyone is running out of books to read at home, let me know!

Math: Zearn Lesson 17, Watch video and do problem set, work on Succeed homework pages.

Science: How are your PBL art projects coming along? Has anyone started their extra credit diorama? Send me pictures if you have so I can post to give everyone some inspiration! Remember what I said- use what’s around the house and outside. It can be fun finding items to represent your animal’s habitat!! I really really can’t wait to see what you come up with. There are pictures linked in the document below if you need ideas and tons more on Pinterest.

I know this isn’t always easy. I have noticed some of you falling a bit behind on Readworks, Flocabulary, Zearn. Remember- try your best with these activities. You don’t need a parent to help you with these ones!

Remember- I am responding to you on ReadWorks and Flocabulary. You can see my comments and feedback. It should make you feel proud to think of all you are able to accomplish on your own during this crazy time. I am so, so proud of you for keeping up and doing your best.

Week 2, Day 6!

Hi guys!! I hope you all had a great weekend. One really nice thing about all this is how much time we can spend at home with our families, working on projects, and just enjoying the little things.

TODAY we are having a live chat at 11:30 AM! I’ll post the link here to Zoom around that time and you will just click on it and join us. Not required, we are just going to hang out 🙂

I wanted to link the daily calendar again, make sure to scroll down to Week 2! Woo!! We are doing great. Seriously, you all should be proud of yourselves for taking charge of your learning. When you get back to school, you will be so happy you kept your brains working while we were off. Keep it up:)

For reading today- read 30 minutes and respond in your journal using the strategy on the calendar. You have a ReadWorks on the Supreme Court.

Math – Lesson 16. Recommended math time should look like this: Zearn, including the tutorial. Watch the video below while doing the problem set, then attempt the homework. DON’T STRESS ABOUT IT BEING PERFECT! 🙂 I will continue to post the homework solutions too for your parents and you.

Science- Please make sure your PBL art project is being worked on/will be ready when we get back to school. Don’t worry about the writing or food chain, we will finish that together when we get back….

If you want to do a fun extra credit project, I am linking the ecosystem diorama instructions below!! My students have loved creating these in the past, and so do I. In fact, I may make one!

ONLY use materials around the house and outside. No one needs to go to the store!! Use an old shoe box or box of a similar size. Other items you can use that you have at home: construction paper, magazine or newspaper pictures, leaves or grass from outside, old plastic toy animals (if you ask permission!), cotton balls, marshmallows, rocks, Playdough, toothpicks, paper towel rolls, pipe cleaners, anything goes!! See how creative you can get. The best part about these projects will be that none of us went to Michael’s or anywhere to buy things- we did it all from things in the house, quarantine style 🙂

I hope to see and hear you guys at 11:30 in the chat!
