Field Trip
Just a reminder that our 2nd grade field trip to Wiard’s Apple Orchard is Thursday . Please remember to pack a sack lunch for your child. Items should be disposable (no glass please). Remember to dress appropriately for the weather. Warm shoes and a warm coat are suggested. Students may want to bring a small hand sanitizer and tissue to keep in their coat pockets. Parent chaperones should check in at the office first then come to our classroom at 8:55 for directions and to get their list of students in their group. We only have one bus, which will accommodate the students and teachers. Parent chaperones will have to drive separately (car pooling with other parents is suggested). Driving directions will be passed out in the classroom. I’m looking forward to an exciting field trip with the students!
Week of oct 27-31
Snow School’s Make a Wish Pumpkin Raffle has started! Students can purchase raffle tickets before or after school Monday-Wednesday, or Thursday before school only. The raffle tickets are $0.25 each.
Peanut Butter Drive: Help feed children on the weekends by donating unopened jars of peanut butter (24 oz. or less) to our school. Please make all donations by Tuesday, November 18th. All proceeds will be donated to Blessings in a Backpack-Dearborn.
Our class will celebrate Halloween on Friday, October 31st at 2:00 p.m. Thank you to the parents who have already signed up to donate treats for the students to eat. Children may also bring in individually wrapped candy to pass out to students in our class only. Students in 2nd grade may wear their costume to school on Friday. With only 1 bathroom in the classroom, it is too time consuming for students to change into Halloween costumes in class. Please do not allow your child to bring any weapons with their costume. Also, no gory costumes or masks that obscure the child’s view.
If you haven’t already signed up for parent teacher conferences in November, please do so as soon as possible. The dates are November 13, 19, and 20 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. This is the time for the parents and teacher to discuss your child’s academic progress and behavior in the classroom. You will also receive your child’s first report card.

Planners and reading logs
It has come to my attention that many children are not filling out their student planners. The planner is up all day for them to copy into their own planner. It is the students’ responsibilities to fill in their own planners. Please check your child’s planner every night. Parents should be signing planners on a daily basis. If your child has not filled anything in, they did not follow directions in class. If nothing has been filled in by the student and a parent still signs the planner, I will not stamp it the next day. Many children are not filling in the correct information and are not doing their homework, or are doing incorrect homework.
The students are capable of filling in their own planners by copying from the board and listening to directions in class. I know this is a hard lesson to learn, but the children must become more responsible and attentive listeners.
Also, students should be reading 15-20 minutes EVERY night and have a parent sign their reading log. Several students have not been filling in their reading logs. If this continues, I will have to contact those families to talk about expectations as a 2nd grader.
It is important to help the children to become responsible learners both at school and at home. Thank you to all of the parents for keeping up with your child to make sure they are responsible students.
