week of December 17th-21st

Just s reminder we have a mid mod 2 test on Wednesday lesson 1-15.  Please use your exit tickets, homework and problem-solving  to review for the test. We will review in class  tomorrow.

There is a  social studies quiz on Thursday. Please review using Quizlet  on Google classroom .

Thank you to the families that have signed up to bring in treats/supplies for this Friday’s Holiday Party.

Remember that the Classroom Holiday Gift Exchange is this Friday, December 21st.  If your child would like to participate they should bring in a new wrapped gift no more than $5.00.  If your child is a boy, then they write “To Boy, From (Student’s Name)” on the wrapped gift.  If your child is a girl, then they write “To Girl, From (Student’s Name” on the gift.  This is optional, but if your child does not bring in a gift, he/she will not receive a gift in exchange.

This week is Snow Holiday Spirit Week:

Monday – “Baby it’s cold outside”- wear a winter hat and scarf

Tuesday-“Snow Day”- wear Snow school apparel

Wednesday-“White Out”- wear white like the winter snow and ice

Thursday-“Snowed In”- wear your pajamas and slippers (follow dress code- no shorts or spaghetti strapped tank tops)

Friday-“Holiday Sweater Day”- wear a festive or ugly sweater

Students have completed their second iReady Diagnostic Test for reading in class last week.  Students should have shown growth since the original test given the end of September.  A report of your child’s progress will be coming home tomorrow. Please go over the report with your child to see where they scored on this test.  Sign and return the paper to school by Friday.  I will send another copy home for you to keep once you’ve returned the signed copy.

I will not be giving specific homework over the holiday break.  However, it is important that you continue to have your child read at home over the break.  Students do NOT need to fill in their Reading Logs over the break, but they should be reading 20-30 minutes daily.During the break student should all still be going on Zearn and I ready so they do not fall behind .  Also, please continue to review basic multiplication facts at home with your child over the break.  A great stocking stuffer is multiplication flashcards.  Students were expected to have memorized their multiplication facts by the end of third grade.  Eureka Math program which is multi-digit multiplication and eventually division.  If your child is struggling with their basic facts math will only become more difficult for them.

Read by Third Grade

Based on Public Law 306 (October 2016), third grade students who are more than a year below grade level on the state ELA assessment are under consideration for retention in third grade.  Dearborn Public Schools staff in elementary schools have been systematically planning to ensure that teachers have the training to teach reading effectively and that students receive small group instruction based on their needs.  The current year second graders are the first group to potentially be impacted by the legislation.
You are invited to join the district task force to strengthen the planning process and to ensure that the community is informed and engaged in the success of every student.
If you would like to participate, please complete the survey.

Thank you for helping to publicize the task force. As a community working together, we will ensure every student is successful.
