Week of September 11th-15th

Thank you for checking my blog. I will make a weekly post every Monday that will cover important things to know throughout the week. If something special arises, I will post them on my blog throughout the week.
This year, all 5th graders at Snow will have 10 academic spelling words that follow a particular pattern and 5 content words that are specific to math, science, social studies, or language. There will NOT be any cold words on Friday’s test.

Our lunch is from 11:10-11:50, therefore our class will enjoy snack in the afternoon around 1:30. Students are allowed to bring a HEALTHY snack to enjoy in the afternoon.

We will begin our switching of classes today for Science and Social Studies. We will go to Mr. DeSantis for Social Studies at a different time in the afternoon. Each session is approximately 40 minutes per subject area. Each student needs a folder and spiral notebook for each class.
Reminder that Open House is this Thursday, September 14th from 6:00-7:30 pm. Please come in to meet the teacher, see your child’s classroom, and see how our classroom works!

Read at home plan!!

Dear Snow Families,
This year each student will have a Read At Home Plan. This will include a daily book log that is sent home for students to record how many minutes read each day. The goal is for every student to read 30 minutes per day or 150 minutes per week.

The Read At Home Log will be checked by the classroom teacher and students will be responsible for filling out the log. Logs will be brought home daily. Moby Max and Myon are great resources for reading materials so should be counted in the daily reading. This expectation is for students to improve their reading skills and develop a love of reading so it is important that students choose Good Fit books. Good Fit Books are books that are not too easy or too hard.
Thank you,
Ms. Sherlock
