Calling all parent readers

Calling All Parent Readers!!!

In celebration of March is Reading Month, I’m requesting parents (that are available of course) to come in and read your child’s favorite story. This would take no longer than 5-10 minutes. Available times are on Mondays at 8:55, Wednesday at 8:55, Friday at 8:55. Please email me to sign up for an available reading time. mohamek@dearbornschools.org– I will confirm the times available and post on the blog all schedule and updated times.

Week of February 24th

Reading We will be learning about our immediate
environments. We will discuss directional words to get one place to another within our classroom, school and community. The goal is listening and understanding information and following multi-step directions.

Writing We will be writing a personal narrative. We will use transition words: First, Next, Last. The topic will be How to brush your teeth. We will do this together as a whole group. The sentence stem: First, . Next, . Last, __.

Language Arts l-Blends: cl-, bl-, fl- (floor, block, clock) Phonemic Awareness: rhymes, short medial sound of cvc words short i, Spelling words: a, we, and, come, pig, wig, dig, jig, big

Math We will be counting numbers 0-100. We will continue to practice count by 5’s to 100. We will learn about number bonds. We will learn to compose and decompose numbers sets within 10 using number bonds, pictures, number sentences, linking cubes and base ten blocks.

Social Studies We will learn about geography. We will explore maps, globes, compass rose (north, south, east, west)and directional words.

Reading We will continue to investigate Penguins. We will
identify the main idea and details about this topic read. We will
also identify author’s purpose to inform. We will then discuss
friendship.

Writing We will finish our writing about penguins. We will
then write our opinions about a friend using adjective.The
sentence stem: My friend is___ . She/He is great at___. She/He
can___.

Language Arts Blends and digraphs: ph, kn-, wr-
(phone, phase, know, knight, knot, wring, write, etc) Phonemic

Science We will continue to learn about tracking weather conditions. We will review severe weather conditions such as: hurricane, tornado, tsunami and flooding. We will come up with ideas to protect ourselves from these weather conditions.

REMINDERS:

Late start, Wednesday, February 5th.

100th day of school is Thursday, Feb. 6th. Your child may dress like a 100 year old person that day. 

1st official Spelling Test will be on Thursday, Feb. 6th. 

No school on Friday, Feb. 7th for kindergarten only

as: hurricane, tornado, tsunami and flooding.

Reminders:

Please dress your child appropriately for the weather. It is getting colder and it is easier to remove layers.

the main idea and one detail about the topic read. We will also
identify author’s purpose to inform.

Writing: We are learning about informational writing. We will
write about an arctic animal together each day (arctic fox,
penguins, polar bears, etc). We will use a story as guide to
collect information.

objects using the symbols: greater than, less than, and equal to:
<,>,=. We will have a test on this material this week. Please practice.

Social Studies: We will learn about a timeline. Your child
will need to identify milestones in their lives. When they were
born? What happened when they were 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, years old.
We will plot it on a timeline to present.
