Hope everyone enjoys their family time during this Memorial Weekend and for those who are celebrating Ramadan- Ramadan Mubarak!

This week is going to be a four day week starting Tuesday-remember no school on Friday, May 26 and Monday, May 29th

Reading: we will be reading Fairy Tales this week and practice sequencing and retelling with picture cards. The stories are: The three billy goats gruff; Jack and the bean stalk; Hansel and Gretel. We also will read The Hungry Caterpillar and sequence that as well.

Strategy: Sequencing

Writing: We will be writing our opinions about a story of our choice and list 2 reasons why. Sentence stems are: I like the book ___. I like it because___. I also like it because__.

Math: We will review addition and subtraction within 10. We will use the vocabulary compose for addition and decompose for subtraction.

Reading: We will be reading Wart Hogs Paint; Famous People; Fun Places.

Strategy in reading: Reflecting and making self to text connections to the text we just read.

Writing: We will be writing a personal narrative about our Happy Moments. We will discuss what a lead is. The lead is the beginning of our story starter: One day, I__. or One time, I__.

We will also make sure we use our transitions in our writing which are first, next, then and last.

Our goal is to reflect on happy  moments and write a story with characters, setting and some conversations if possible.

Math: Measurement practice with measuring tape, with rulers, with and unifix cubes . We will practice how to align when we measure.

Social Studies: Memorial Day and review of Michigan ideas.

New Unit: Look what I know a lot!

Writing: We will write about what we know and what we wish to still learn to do. Our sentence stem will be: I can do many things, but I really wish I knew how to ___. This will be a narrative writing piece. It allow your child to reflect on their learning so far and analyze what they need to work on.

Math: We will review geometrical shapes and discuss how you can take certain shapes and build a different shape.

Social Studies: We are learning all about Michigan this week! We will learn that Michigan is a state. It has a flag. It as a state bird. It has a state flower. Here is what you can review with your child:

  • Michigan is one of the 50 states in the United States of America
  • The state bird is: the American Robin
  • The state flower: the apple blossom
  • The state flag has an elk, a moose and an eagle surrounding a blue shield. The shield has a man by a lake with a sun in the background.

May 18th- Field trip to Green Field Village. Time: 9:30-2:00

June 9th-Father day Celebration. Time: 9:00-9:25

Week of May 8th

Thank you for making this week an amazing week! Thank your for all the beautiful gifts and treats this week. I’ m truly blessed to be a part of your child’s learning everyday! They are amazing and so are you!!!! 

Week of May 8th:

We will be focusing on opinions and reasons why for their opinions.

Reading: Its all about MOM’s this week. We will be reading multiple books about moms and creating multiple activities about our Moms.

Invitations coming home this week for Friday, May 12th at 8:50-9:10. We need to start right away because we are scheduled for NWEA Math testing at 9:10, so please be on time or just walk in at arrival time. 

Writing: We will writing our opinion about our Moms this week. We are building something special for Friday for you…..

Math: Comparing amount of objects & numbers- Greater than, less than or equal to.

Science: Presenting our posters we made at home for the clean up parade. This is a family project. Please work with your child and most of all have fun with it! This is due Monday, May 8th.

Social Studies: We are talking about rights and responsibilities this week. What it means to be part of a democracy and how we agree on things (voting, choices, creating rules/laws etc.)
