Math: We will count numbers 0-20 and recognize how each number looks like. We will will work on automatically recognize numbers 1-5 without counting using a five frame, scatter mat and deck o dots. The goal is to see a group of objects and it does not matter if it is in a line or in a group that children can group the amounts and recognize a group of five without counting. We will also explore coins and compare height as well.

Science: We will explore the five senses further. We will do different activities to address each sense each day.

Social Studies: We continue to review the rules daily. We are also discussing what it means to share, take your turn and be a part of a classroom community.

A few things to keep in mind:

  • Wear gym shoes on gym days (Monday and Thursday)
  • Return library books on Thursday to check out new ones

Reading Bags

As you may have noticed, your child came home with a Zip Loc bag with a book and a card. On this card is your child’s username and password to access plenty of online learning. As a parent of a Dearborn Public School student, I have viewed and witnessed the paid programs as beneficial to allowing your child to learn and grow. Please explore the options from MyOn and MobyMax.

MyOn is an online library where your child is turning the pages of a story that is being read to them. The best part of it is it highlights the words as its being read to them. This does multiple things for a beginning reader:

1. It models directionality left to right

2. It practices return sweep when reading a line.

3. It models what good reading sounds like and looks like

4. It has comprehension questions in the end

5. It provides an arrangement of titles to keep them interested in reading

and much more!!!

Moby Max is a program that offers multiple training games for your child. It has all subjects areas from reading, basic math facts and science and social studies concepts. All in which are engaging and fun.

Check them out and enjoy, courtesy of Dearborn Public Schools.

Make sure your reading with your child for 20 minutes every day!!! Reading log coming home at the end of this week for the month of October.

**********Tumble Books is also another online reading program to dive into as well paid by Howard. To access:

username: Howards

password: books

Happy Reading!!!!
