Letters of the week: Qq, Rr (review all letters we have learned so far and their sounds)

Sight words of the week: ride, on, in

Writing: It is all about descriptive informational writing. It is all about the DETAIL. We will write about certain vehicles and then describe their colors and possible shapes found on the vehicles.  Sentence stem will be: I can see a _(shape)_  on a  _(color)_  _(type of vehicle)_. EX. I can see 4 circles on a green truck.

Math: We are still practicing counting and writing numbers:

  • by 1’s to 100
  • by 10’s to 100
  • by 5’s to 100

We are also using spinners to count and graph amounts. We will be comparing groups using the academic vocabulary: greater than, less than, equal to, fewer and more. We will be looking at numbers 0-20 in different modalities (or ways of seeing numbers) such as 12 can be 10 fingers and 2 toes; a double ten frame and 12 spots filled in;   1 ten base block  and 2 ones unit equals 12; 12 tally marks represents 12; a group of 12 dots on a mat represents the number 12; 10 + 2 = 12; 5 + 5 +2= 12 and so forth. We will also practice how to add with doubles. We will use a ten frame and unfix cubes to aide with this process.

  • EXAMPLES: 2+2= 4; 4+4=8

Also, we have been practicing a chant to help us remember putting the numbers in the correct order to avoid the reversals.

Here is the chant:

A   1   and   a   1   make 11 fun

A   1   and   a   2   tell twelve what to do

A   1   and   a   3   send 13 up a tree

A   1   and   a   4   make 14 shut the door

A   1   and   a   5   keep 15 alive

A   1   and   a   6   make 16 pick up sticks

A   1   and   a   7   send 17 to heaven

A   1   and   an   8   make 18 great

A   1   and   a   9   make 19 shine

A   2   and   a   0   make 20 the hero

Science: We will continue to graph the weather for November and start  December graph.

Social Studies: We will dive into what a need is again this week and compare it to a want. We will create a sort.

Have a great week!

Ms. Mohamed
