Week of October 30th

Reading: We will be reading stories about friends: Friends all around; The mouse and the lion; Big Red Barn; Poems about Friends.

C.A.F.E. Strategies:

Comprehension: Retell- Identify: Beginning, Middle, End

Accuracy: Identify: Beginning Sounds, syllables/word parts (through clapping)

Fluency: Identify: letters, sight words

Expanding vocabulary: Concepts of print: front/back cover, word by word matching, spacing between words, where to begin reading, identify title, author, illustrator, opinion, narrative.

Letters of the week: Hh, Ii

Sight words of the week: go, to

Writing: We will be continuing narrative writing using the new sight words this week. Our sentence stem will be: I can go to the ___.

Math: Number racks!! We will learn that this is a math tool. We will use it in our learning of adding with in 10, counting and to build automacity and numeracy. This will be another modality to assist in counting. I will teach when and how to stop and start counting using the racks. We will write addition number sentences to match. Homework on Wednesday.

Social Studies: We will discuss ways to get along by creating webs and sentence stems: I can be responsible by__. I can be fair by __. I can solve a problem by __.

REMINDERS:

  • 1/2 day Friday, November 3rd-Dismissal at 11:45
  • I will continue to assess where your child stands in time for report cards, so no new reading books this week. We will continue new books and reading groups next week.
  • October reading logs due Wednesday, Nov. 1st.
  • Parent Teacher Conferences coming up:
    • Thursday, November 9th,
    • Wednesday, November 15,
    • Thursday, November 16
    • Note coming on Friday for your scheduled time. I will be giving out report cards and having a short discussion on where your child stands and address any concerns you may have.
