Week 2 of our Families Unit: Families work together
Reading: We will read The Picnic at the Apple Park ; Night Aminals; Squeaky Old Bed; The Big Red Barn
Strategies:
- Identify the characters, setting
- Identify Front/Back cover, Title, Spine of a book
- Identify the beginning and the end of the story
- Answer comprehension questions in a story (who, when, why, what happened)

Writing: Students will draw and write a personal narrative on what they do with their families
Sentence stem: We ___.
Math: We will practice writing numbers 0-10 for those who are struggling. We will also manipulate the amount in groups to identify what makes a group of ten. ie. 3+7=10, 8+2=10 etc.. We will also explore shapes in our everyday lives. We will use the magazines to sort shapes into groups of circle, square, rectangle and triangle. ie. pizza can be circle or triangle
Science: We will explore the fall season. Essential questions include:
What happens in the weather?
What happens to the animals?
What happens to the plants/trees?
Lots of observations will be made and data collecting will occur in their science journals.
Social Studies: Its all about cooperation and working together. Practice and role model how to take turns and solving a problem if we don’t agree!
