Week of April 25th

We are starting a new unit: What you know

Reading: We will be reading I know a lot, Water Changes, The Knee High Man and  The blind men and the Elephant. Its all about facts and description. Whenever you read with your child have your child describe what they see and  identify the real ideas (facts) that is occurring in the stories your read together.

C.A.F.E. Strategies:

Comprehension: Re-reading to get information

Accuracy: blending words to make sounds, Rhyme

Fluency: Long and short vowels

Expanding Vocabulary: Spacing between words, punctuation

Writing: We will be conducting the district writing prompt. Your child will be expected to write an informational piece on a topic.  Your child has been writing several informational pieces these past few weeks (flowers, beetles, sea creatures and dinosaurs) so they have practiced and I know they will do great. This will take a few days.

Spelling: with, my, pen, den, hen, men, then, when (and 2 cold words from the -en family)

Math: We will be working hard on the missing addend. It will look like this :

3 +__= 8

5 – __= 3

We will also continue to review adding and subtracting number problems within 15. It would look like this:

13 +2=

It could be viewed as 10 +3+2= 15, always make a ten and add more to it!

Science: We are investigating solid, liquid and gases. We will also continue our documentation of our plants.

Social Studies: We are participating in Make Our School Green Campaign. We will continue to collect soda pop cans  or bottles to be deposited. We will then give the money to our representatives to plant flowers in front of Howard.

Thank you for your support!
