Week of February 3rd

Reading We will investigate Penguins.  We will identify the main idea and details about this topic read. We will also identify author’s purpose to inform.

Writing We are learning about informational writing. We will write about a penguins. We will use a story as guide to collect information/evidence. The sentence stem will be: A penguin is a bird. It has __. It can__.   

Language Arts Blends and digraphs: kn-, wr- (know, knight, knot, wring, write, etc)Phonemic Awareness: rhymes, short  medial sound of cvc words, Spelling words: like, to, the, can, fan, ran. Sight words: she, did, not

Review sight words: have, you,said, this, on, up, dog, little, here, she did, not 

Math We will be counting numbers 0-75. We will continue to practice count by 5’s to 100. We will learn about number bonds. We will learn to compose and decompose numbers sets within 10 using number bonds, pictures, number sentences, linking cubes and base ten blocks.   

Social Studies We will learn about a timeline. We learn about daily timelines: morning, afternoon, night. We will also learn weekly timelines: yesterday, today, tomorrow. 

Science We will continue to learn about tracking weather conditions. We will review severe weather conditions such as: hurricane, tornado, tsunami and flooding. We will come up with ideas to protect ourselves from these weather conditions.

REMINDERS:

Late start, Wednesday, February 5th.

100th day of school is Thursday, Feb. 6th. Your child may dress like a 100 year old person that day. 

1st official Spelling Test will be on Thursday, Feb. 6th. 

No school on Friday, Feb. 7th for kindergarten only
