Review week: Weather and Seasons
Reading: we will be reading fiction and non-fiction stories this week called: Bears snores on; Bear wants more; All about Bears, Animals in winter.
Focus vocabulary: hibernation, migration
Strategy:
- Comparing stories and collecting reall information
- making a text to self connection
- making a text to text connection
- retell the a story (first, next, then, last)
- Identify problem and solution
Spelling: sun, bun, run, fun, up, it, is, in, help
Phonics: short u; CVC words practice with our word families
- sight word test coming up
- Letter identification and their sound test coming up
Grammar:
- nouns (review)
- verbs (review)
- adjectives (new this week)
- homophones (review)
- antonyms/opposites (new this week)
- rhymes (review)
Writing: we will be writing a non-fiction book or writing piece about bears. We will create a thinking map, KWL chart and a tree chart to guide in this process. Sentence stems will be: Bears are ___. Bears can____. Bears have ____. Each child is expected to write 3 sentences independently.
Math: we will continue to practice addition, subtraction, counting backward and comparing numbers 0-10. We will also explore making 2 digit numbers using base ten blocks (tens and ones).
Social Studies: we will be having a social studies test this week about maps, globes, positional words (next to, up, down, above, below, under), sequence of a story (beginning, middle, end), regions in a classroom or a school ( i.e. What does a playground contain?, what does a lunchroom contain?, what does a classroom contain?).
