Welcome back!
New Unit: Weather
Reading: We will be reading A Rainy Day; Weather Poems; Frog and the Locust; How thunder became lightening.
Strategies:
- Self to text connection: what do you do in this particular type of weather
- Retelling: Beginning, middle, end of a story
- Rhyming
Word Family: -ig (pig, big, dig, twig, fig, rig)
Phonics for the week: short i (-ig words, pin, fit, chick, fish; etc)
Spelling: are, what, and, rain, pig, big, dig
Writing: we will focus on opinion writing this week. We will discuss our favorite weather. We will create a weather thinking map and choose our favorite weather and why we like it. Our sentence stem will be: I like ___. I can__. It is ___.
Math: We will practice counting on using addition. We will also explore ways of making 10. We will create number stories and connect them to creating number sentences. Practice identifying any number on a number chart.
Science: We will revisit land forms. We will identify where to find soil, sand, and water.
Social studies: We will sharpen our map skills. We will learn to follow directions, to find items on a map and to understand important aspects of a map such as a compass rose, a key and positional words (next to, across, south of, north of, west of, east of, behind, above, below etc..).
REMINDERS:
- Book fair is scheduled this week. If your child is interested in purchasing any books please preview the order form that was sent before break.
- March is Reading month is starting!!! You will be receiving a letter with details this week.
- In celebration of March is Reading Month, I’m requesting parents (that are available of course) to come in and read your child’s favorite story or I could provide a book for you to read. This would take no longer than 10-15 minutes. I will send out available times later this week. Please email me the time that works for you and I will confirm via email.
