Happy Tuesday!
Reading: We started working intensely on our recent research endangered project. We will investigate the koala, black rhino, sea turtles and the Siberian Tiger. We will read multiple articles from Readworks.org on each animal and will create a comprehensive collection of information.
It will consist of:
- Appearance: What do they look like?
- Food: What do they eat? Carnivore, Herbivore, Omnivore
- Habitat: In what do they live in?
- Continent: Location on a map
- How can we help?
Strategy:
- Collecting information and applying in our writing
- Transferring information from a table into structured writing
- Responding to questions
- Thinking outside the box: what would or can they do?
Letters of the week: Qq, Zz
Sight words: Review: has, help

It is in __(continent).
***Today your child came home with an extensive writing piece about koalas. Please read and review with your child. Tomorrow we will focus on the black rhino.
Math: We will practice 0-70. We will practice using a ruler. We will discuss that there is 12 inches in a foot. A ruler is also known as a foot. We practice measuring a few things using a ruler. All items measured were less than a foot size. The idea was to make sure we are able to measure correctly, starting at zero. More sample practice will be coming home this week. Please review how to measure with your child.
Science: We will continue to discuss motion and how shapes moves. We will discuss what gravity is and which way items are pulled due to gravity (down). We will also practice naming 3-d shapes and how it connects to real life objects and how they move. Some examples include:
- cube: tissue box-slides
- pyramid: pyramids of Egypt-slides
- cone: ice cream cone- slides, rolls in a circle
- cylinder: cup- slides, rolls in a straight line
