Unit 2: Friends-What is a Friend?
Essential Questions: What is a friend and what can you do with friends?
Reading: We will be reading stories and poems such as: Friends All Around; Games Around the World; Making Friends; The Fight; The Lion and the Mouse.
Strategies:

- Sight word identification within a story or sentences
- Asking questions about a story before reading
- Responding to questions in a story
- Making connections to a story read
Sight Word of the Week: “A” pronounced as “ah”
Letter of the Week: Pp
Writing: We will continue to write our opinions and why. We will focus on games we like to play with friends. This week we will create a thinking map of a game and the following week we will write using the map we created. Sentence stem: I like ___because___.
Math: We will revisit shapes, counting to 20, counting using base ten blocks. We will discuss how many tens and ones within the tricky teens. Please make sure your child can count and write to 20. Make sure they can count objects to 20 and they tap as they count. We will also discuss 2d-3d shapes.
Science: Pumpkin Investigation. We will explore ideas about pumpkins and understand how they grow, discuss how they look and feel like, compare them to other pumpkins, what we can do with pumpkins and how they relate to the fall season. We will eventually make predictions of what is inside a pumpkin, open it up, feel the insides of a pumpkin and count seeds.

- Reading Log for October is due. If you lost the sheet to record books, write the books read for October on a piece of paper.
