Writing: We will continue writing our opinion. Again, Opinion is what we think about something. This week we are pushing inventive spelling. Here are some tips: Stretch out the word. Say it slowly. Write each letter you hear. Your child may not hear the vowels sounds yet but that is o.k.. We are trying to transfer the letters they do know to writing. The key is to be patient. You may noticed your child came home with an alphabet anchor chart. Practice the letters, letter sound and thing that begins with that letter. for example Aa /a/ apple, as a part of your daily reading. This will ingrain the the letter and sound for your child as a daily practice. For those who do know the the letter and letter sound, I sent home a blends and digraphs anchor chart.
Opinion Writing sentence stem this week: I like ____ because____.
Math: We are practicing writing numbers 1-20. We are working specifically on tricky teens. Make sure your child is is writing 14 not 41; 15 not 51 etc.. Here is a chant that will help remember the order of writing the numbers.
1 and 1 make 11 fun,
1 and a 2 tell 12 what to do,
1 and a 3 tell 13 climb a tree,
1 and a 4 tell 14 shut the door,
1 and a 5 keep 15 alive,
1 and a 6 tell 16 pick up sticks,
1 and a 7 send 17 to heaven,
1 and a 8 makes 18 great,
1 and a 9 keep 19 in line
2 and a 0 makes 20 a hero!
We are also highlighting that:
- 11 is one ten and 1 one
- 12 is one ten and 2 ones
- 13 is one ten and 3 ones
- 14 is one ten and 4 ones
- 15 is one ten and 5 ones
- 16 is one ten and 6 ones

- 20 is 2 tens
We are also going to discuss 2d and 3d shapes. We will also take about how 2 shapes can make on bigger shape. For example, 2 triangles can make 1 square. 6 triangles can make a hexagon. 2 trapezoids make a hexagon.
