Welcome back! I hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable holiday and break.
Coming this week…
We are starting a new unit called Amazing Creatures:
- Week1-Interesting insects
Reading:We will read plenty of informational and non-fiction books about all kinds of insects this week. We will read to collect information to guide our writing. We will also read a play about An Ant and The Grasshopper we will create a Frayer Diagram to record characters, setting, Author’s Purpose, and a favorite part of a story.
- Comprehension strategy: Asking questions
- Comprehension skill: Classify and categorize
Writing: Its all about informational writing! We will be asking questions about insects and answering in complete sentences. We will ask a question and research an answer using the text provided or the infamous Google.
- For example:
- Can a lady bug fly? Yes, a ladybug can fly.
- Can bugs live in the water? Yes, some bugs can live in water.
Word Family: (-ig) big, fig, gig, jig, pig, rig, twig
Spelling Words: he, she, yes, no, insects, jig, big, wig, rig, twig
Math: We are starting a weaving project. We will also practice basic addition and subtraction. To practice with your child make sure they pay attention to the symbol (+,-). We will also review reading clocks to the nearest hour. We will also continue practicing writing number 0-100.
Science: We will continue our investigation about plants. Some plants have sprouted! We will observe how much our plants have grown over break and record our findings in our science journal. We will continue to identify what plants need for growth and create a flip book. We will also discuss what photosynthesis means to plants. Photosynthesis means the process of how plants make their food.
- There is a really cool game to play under class links called Growing Plants. I introduced it in the classroom. Your child will love it.
