Week of November 9th

What a beautiful weekend! Hope our little ones had time to play outside before its gets too cold!!

New Unit: Getting around town

Reading: We will be reading A Bus for Us, Ways to travel, Turtle and the Rabbit. We will be discussing forms of transportation and describing vehicles.

Strategies:

  • Comprehension: Review character and setting. Retelling the story (Beginning, middle, end) and asking questions
  • Accuracy: Identify the first sound in a word and the last sound in a word
  • Fluency: Recognize upper/lower case letters and sight words
  • Expanding Vocabulary: Reading from left to right, Reading from top to bottom, Read from the left page and move to the right page. Know return sweep when reading /writing a sentence, punctuation (period, question, exclamation mark), Author, Illustrator

Letter of the week: Tt (review the previous letters learned)

Sight word: See (Review: I, can, we, the, like, a)

Writing: We will continue to focus on space between the words. We will make a list of vehicle and review shapes. We will also be able to write sentences independently using stems such as:  “I see a____.”,  “I see a (shape) on a (vehicle).”

Math: We will be working on greater than, less than or equal to. We will explore numbers using dice, dominoes and a number line. We will explore the use of a pan balance and review lighter and heavier. We will continue to practice counting 0-30 .  We will also practice adding one to any given number.

Social Studies: We identify what is a want and what is a need. A need are items used for basic survival. Examples of a need would be: house, clothes, water, food etc. A want are items that are one may wish for. Examples of wants are: video games, cupcakes, a doll, a ball etc.

REMINDERS

  • Please return the parent teacher conference reminder notes to confirm your time.
  • Pasta for pennies will be due on Nov. 20th
  • We are also running low on snacks. If you can donate some, that would be great!
