Week of November 2nd

I hope everyone had a safe and eventful Halloween weekend! This is a short week. Here is what we are diving into:

Review week: Unit: Getting along

Reading: We will be reading Simon and Molly Plus Hester, Helping Hands and several short poems.

Strategies:

  • Comprehension: Review character and setting. Retelling the story (Beginning, middle, end) and asking questions
  • Accuracy: Identify the first sound in a word and the last sound in a word
  • Fluency: Recognize upper/lower case letters and sight words
  • Expanding Vocabulary: Reading from left to right, Reading from top to bottom, Read from the left page and move to the right page. Know return sweep when reading /writing a sentence, punctuation (period, question, exclamation mark), Author, Illustrator

Letter of the week: Review: Aa, Mm, Pp, Ss

Sight word: Review: I, can, we, the, like, a

Writing: We will focus on space between the words. We will create a Mr. Spaceman or a Ms. Spacewoman. We will continue to practice letter formation.. We will also be able to write sentences independently using the sight words learned thus far.

Math: We will be working on estimation and number stories.  We will continue to practice counting 0-20. We will continue to focus on numbers 11-20.  We will also practice adding one to any given number. We will also review patterns with shapes and other items. We will continue to discuss positional/prepositional words.

Science: We will complete our Fall book- coming home this week! Your child was the author and illustrator

Social Studies: We will practice ways of cooperating. We will discuss ways to work as a team. Students will build multiple puzzles together and play game boards.

REMINDERS

  • No school: Tuesday, November 3rd- Voting Day
  • Half day: Friday, November 6th
  • Parent teacher conference reminders will be coming home later this week. If the time is not suitable, let me know so we can reschedule.
  • If you did not turn in your reading log for October, please do so as soon as possible. If you lost the paper, you may list the books read on a separate sheet of paper.
  • We are also running low on snacks. If you can donate some that would be great!
