We can not believe October is coming to an end!
This week….
Unit: What is a friend?
Essential questions: Who can be a friend? What can you do with a friend?
Reading: We will be reading Friends All Around, Making Friends (poem), The Fight (poem), The lion and the mouse, Stellaluna
Strategies:
- Comprehension: Identifying character, setting
- Accuracy: Identify the first sound in a word and the last sound in a word
- Fluency: Recognize upper/lower case letters and sight words
- Expanding Vocabulary: Reading from left to right, Reading from top to bottom, Read from the left page and move to the right page. Know return sweep when reading /writing a sentence
Letter of the week: Pp (Review: Aa, Mm- we will continue blending “a-m” to make the word “am”
Grammar: Nouns- (singular and plural) We will also listen for “s” at the end of a word to describe more than one.
Sight word: “a”-pronounced “ahh” (Review: I, can, we, the, like)
Writing: We will continue to practice letter formation. We will create a picture web. This will be a stepping stone to help the brainstorming process. We will also be able to write sentences independently using the sight words learned thus far.
Math: We will continue to practice counting 0-20. We will continue to focus on numbers 11-20. We call these numbers tricky teens. Students will at times write number incorrectly within these numbers. We will also practice adding one to any given number.
We will also review patterns with shapes and other items. We will continue to discuss positional/prepositional words.
Science: Fall investigation continued… We started to create a fall book to wrap our ideas about fall. We will focus on pumpkins. We will make a prediction, conclusion and record our data in our science journals.
Earlier this year, I requested for parents to send in a white t-shirt or lab coat and a pair of safety goggles or old sunglasses. If you have not send in one yet, please do so. Your child will be role playing scientist during our science investigations.
Reminders:
- Friday will be our Halloween Parade and Party. Students may bring a costume to school and we will change into the costumes after lunch. You also may take your child home at lunch (11:15) to eat and dress. Please have your child back at school by 12:00 noon. We have music at 12:00.
- The parade will be held at 1:30 at our school track- weather permitting, of course.
- The homeroom parent has requested for $2 for organizing the Halloween party on Friday. If you did not send the money in yet, please do so.
