Some More At Home Activities

Literacy: Cut out some Circles, best you can. Write your name (each letter with go inside each individual circle). Than glue your name together onto another sheet of paper. This is a great letter recognition activity!!

Math: Fruit Snack Color Graphing: Have some extra fruit snacks around. Have your child sort out the colors. Which color has the most? Which one has the least?

Science: Magic Milk Science Experiment

Milk

Food coloring

Cotton Swab

Dish soap or detergent

A bowl or a plate

A small recipient for the detergent

Step 1

Start by pouring the milk in your recipient. You should only aim at covering the bottom of your recipient or plate to not waste the milk.

Step 2

Then add drops of the different food coloring you have. You can either spread them or aim at the middle of the plate.
We went with the primary colors (blue, red and yellow) to test out my kids color mixing theories!

Step 3

Dip your cotton swab in the detergent and you are all set!
The magic is ready to begin.

You can either let the detergent drop from the cotton swab or you can dip it in your plate!

Tadaaa!! The colors are running away from the cotton swab and getting mixed together.

It is very easy to guess where we dipped out detergent as the food coloring ran spread in a circle shape when it had enough room.

It’s a great experiment to watch. You can dip the cotton swab for quite some time if you do not leave it in the milk for more than a second each time.
After a little while, it won’t work anymore as the colors will be mixed with the milk.

Here is what happened when I tried moving the recipient! Turned out to be great art!

Art: Create a Heart for all those who are still working to show your love and support (Police, First Responders, Medical Personal, Store Workers, Ect.) After you are done tape the heart to your window for everyone to see!

Outdoors: Go for a Color Walk: Go for a walk outside with Mom and Dad and Look for all the colors of the rainbow!

Don’t forget to read a story!!

Dearborn Schools Update

As many of you know, this morning Gov. Whitmer issued a Stay Home-Stay Safe order. We wanted to update what this means for the schools.
1.Schools will now be closed THROUGH April 13. We were planning to return that day, but now are scheduled to return Tuesday, April 14. Obviously, that could change as the situation evolves.

  1. Free meal distributions will continue during the shelter-in-place period. Providing food is an “essential service.” In fact, we now are planning to extend the meal distribution through our spring break, so food will be handed out Monday to Friday through at least April 13.
  2. Online learning will continue. While current state law says the learning cannot count as “seat time,” Gov. Whitmer has clarified that “does not mean that school work done during the mandatory school closure won’t ‘count’ toward grades, credits, or graduation.” (Teachers and students are still officially scheduled for spring break from April 6-10, so there might be a week off during your weeks off.)

We will continue to work to keep you posted on changes and have information at firstbell.dearbornschools.org. Meanwhile, please stay safe out there everyone.
