First Hour – Class Paragraph Summary

Classes of Elements

The periodic table includes elements such as non-metals, properties help you identify them. Most metals have few electrons on the outermost shell. Metals have many properties; an example is that they are shiny and malleable. Most non-metals are right of the zigzag line on the periodic table. Metalloids are known as semi-conductors and have properties of metals and non-metals. Each element has a chemical symbol. Conductivity and reactivity change from left to right in each period. On the periodic table, the same group elements have the same physical and chemical properties.

Fifth Hour’s Paragraph

Changes in Matter

Matter is anything that takes up space and has mass. There are many examples of physical changes like a change in the state of matter. It is a physical change if the matter is not permanently combined.  A chemical change changes matter to create new substances. An example of a chemical change is when wood is burned it is turned into ashes. Another example is iron rusting.
