Letter to the Community

Afternoon Haigh Community,

This week marks 2 months that we have been away from one another. We miss you and look forward to the day that we can get back together at Haigh! Below are some important items for the month of May. I will continue to provide updates about the end of this school year and plans for next year. Please continue to check the Haigh Website at https://haigh.dearbornschools.org/ for up to date information and news from Haigh.

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY- THANK YOU TO ALL MOMS FOR EVERYTHING THAT YOU DO FOR YOUR FAMILIES!! I HOPE THAT YOU HAD A GREAT MOTHER’S DAY AND THAT YOU WERE SPOILED WITH LOVE 🙂

***Check your classroom teachers communication portal for the day that they will be passing out resources***
***THIS WILL BE A DRIVE THRU SERVICE ON BOTH DAYS***
Steps for pick up: For maxium protection we will be placing your students’ resources in a brown bag labeled with their First Name, Last Name, grade level and Teacher. Pick-up will be a drive through service. Grades K-1-2 will pick up using the Silvery Lane drop off lane. Grades 3-4-5 will pick up using the Coburn drop off lane. Parents please place a sign in your passenger window with the names of your student(s)(First Name, Last Name, Grade Level and Teacher. When you pull up to the grade level station, we will then place the brown bag of resources into your trunk and you will be all set 🙂  ***Following these steps will keep everyone safe and healthy, thank you for your help and cooperation 🙂

Google Meets(class virtual meetings)-At this time Google Meets have been blocked for students to access. This is due to some student misbehavior across the district. Classroom teachers are able to record and share lessons.  District is working to resolve this concern. If you have a student with an IEP or who is receiving support services then  please contact your caseload or classroom teacher for guidance.
Content Practice-We know that remote learning has its challenges and that the balance between work responsibilities, sharing technology, student work, and other family obligations can make each day difficult. We ask that you look at the assignments each week and do your best to have your students practice these activities (suggested content practice minutes are listed below). -Our classroom teachers will be providing recorded/live lessons, have office hours to answer questions, and will provide the essential skills that your student(s) need to practice during this time. Please continue to check your classroom and specials teachers’ blog, dojo, seesaw, remind, or google classroom each week for updated materials.- Please also do not hesitate to reach out for help with content, social and emotional needs, or if your family may need help with food. We are here to help our Haigh Community!

Overall, it has been an interesting week with weather, but next week shows temperatures in the 70’s! I hope that all families are able to get outside and enjoy these warming temperatures 🙂   Please also make sure that you are continuing to stay safe and healthy. I hope that everyone has a great week!

Sincerely,

 Mr. Short

Week 6 Online Learning Assignment List

Sadly, we have another change in plans this week. Unfortunately, due to some very poor choices made by several middle school students, Dearborn has restricted Google Hangouts/Google Meets to recordings only. This means that sadly, I will be unable to host any more live meetings with the students. There is another program that I am hopeful may work instead, but in the meantime, there will be no live meetings this week. I miss all of your smiling faces and despite this hiccup in the plans, I am confident that we will figure this out, and see one another again very soon. Essential Worker Opportunity

There’s a new program that will pay up to $500 in utility costs for Michigan’s essential workers. THAW, or The Heat and Warm Fund, will pay up to $500 in utility assistance for any household with an income up to 250% of the Federal Poverty Level. Following the Department of Homeland Security’s definition of an essential worker, if you’re a health care nurse, hospital cleaning and maintenance worker, grocery and foodservice clerk, or bus driver, you qualify.

A Letter to our Community

Afternoon Haigh Community,

Last week Dearborn’s Remote Learning Plan was approved by the state of Michigan. This plan asks for students to continue to practice their content and special’s work during these next 7 weeks. Students, parents, and  staff have worked very hard this school year and we want to continue to work together to ensure that every student is ready for the next grade level. We know that remote learning has its challenges and that the balance between work responsibilities, sharing technology, student work, and other family obligations can make each day difficult. We ask that you look at the assignments each week and do your best to have your students practice these activities (suggested content practice minutes are listed below). Our classroom teachers will be providing recorded/live lessons, have office hours to answer questions, and will provide the essential skills that your student(s) need to practice during this time. Please continue to check your classroom and specials teachers’ blog, dojo, seesaw, remind, or google classroom each week for updated materials. Please also do not hesitate to reach out for help with content, social and emotional needs, or if your family may need help with food. We are here to help our Haigh Community!

For the 4th card marking your students will receive a report card. This report will look different than the traditional report cards that had a 1-2-3-4 scale. The updated report card will have the following marks aligned to the Dearborn Remote Learning Plan: Meeting, Progressing, and Limited Participation. Each week classroom and specials’ teachers will be looking at each students’ practice and accuracy with the shared activities. At the end of the term they will then be given an overall grade of “Meeting, Progressing, or Limited Participation”.

To help with technology, we will have additional chromebook pick up days. The first day is scheduled for Monday, April 27th from 1:00-3:30pm. Any family that is interested needs to complete the survey below in order to receive a Chromebook . This survey provides us with the number of Chromebooks that our volunteers will need to clean and prep. We are very pleased to be able to offer this technology for your families! CLICK HERE TO TAKE THE TECHNOLOGY SURVEY. Future chromebook pick up days will be shared on our school and classroom blogs. (teachers may also have content packet pick up days to coincide with these chromebook days)

Overall, the most important thing is for our families to stay safe and healthy during this time away from Haigh. Please have your students practice their content activities with the schedule that works best for your family each week. Thank you for all that you do for your children! Please let us know if we can help in any way 🙂

Sincerely,

 Mr. Short

Meaningful Art Project

Here is a way to show that you care about your community. Oakland University is in the process of preparing dorm rooms to welcome the Beaumont hospital staff so they don’t worry about exposing their families to Covid 19. Dean Kevin Corcoran is requesting images to decorate the rooms and hallways that have inspiring messages, words of thanks, and just bright and beautiful works of art that the medical workers would appreciate.

Please send letters and drawings digitally to Dean Kevin Corcoran corcoran@oakland.edu.

Thanks for your participation!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Lozon

Week 5 Online Learning Assignments

Good afternoon Haigh families! This week you may notice a bit of a change with the way lessons are presented. This is just to keep within the new Dearborn guidelines that were presented to us from the district. Everything will still be submitted using Google Classroom. I also want to give a BIG, GIANT thank you to the PARENTS for all of your support! YOU GUYS are doing a GREAT job and I really appreciate your support as we continue on with learning from home. I miss your children so much and look forward to the weekly virtual meetings that we have.
