Peek at Our Week

Good afternoon Haigh families!I hope you are enjoying the spring weather this weekend. We spent the weekend getting the outside garden ready, spread out new mulch, and cleaned the garage. This week we will continue our hybrid model. Please be sure your child is signing on to Zoom at 8:40 for check in and attendance on their “off” days.

As the Ramadan holiday approaches, students who are planning to fast will be accommodated at Haigh. I will be sending home this letter with your child this week. If you plan to have them fast, please sign and return the form to me.

This week we will take our unit 5 math test on paper, at school 🙂 We will begin module 6, which is data and graphs.

In ELA this week we will work on reading informational text and preparing an informative/explanatory response. We will also read the next story in our Benchmark book and discuss different story elements and determine the central message.

In social studies we will learn about the different landforms in Michigan. Students will work on preparing a slide show to show their understanding.

Reminders for the week:

  • Math test on Monday/Tuesday (A/B). Please review the study guide that I posted under updates last week to review the answers that we did in class.
  • Spring conferences are Wednesday and by appointment only. I have reached out via email last week with those parents I would like to touch base with
  • Please make sure your child brings their fully charged chrome book to class with them each day. We WILL be using them for state testing in the next few weeks. So keeping them in this habit will be greatly appreciated
  • Please also make sure they bring all their books to class each day, along with a water bottle
  • Please check Schoology for the assignment sheet with Zoom links 🙂

Good Evening Haigh Families! I hope everyone enjoyed the first day of SPRING and all of the sunshine and warmer temperatures.

This week is spirit week and the last week before SPRING BREAK!

  • Monday–pajama day
  • Tuesday- twin day
  • Wednesday- CrAzY hAiR dAy!
  • Thursday– dress like a book character
  • Friday– hat day

Reminders for the week:

  • Please be sure your child is “Checking in” for attendance on their off days at 8:40 to review their assignments, specials, and questions

  • Some days students will have indoor recess due to weather. Please have them choose a toy to keep in their locker. Some suggestions are: a bag of Legos or blocks, Pokemon cards, coloring book, thinking putty or playdough etc. These items are for individual play at their desk. Students will not be allowed to share materials.
  • Math packets are due on Monday (A kids), Tuesday (B kids)
  • Reading quiz will be on Wednesday
  • The Spring Book fair is here (3-15-3-28)! Be sure to celebrate March is reading month by purchasing a book for your child. Please click here to start shopping 🙂
  • The assignment sheet that I usually post will now  ONLY be on Schoology due to some hacking issues in the district. You can find it under the updates section and under resources in the weekly lesson assignment folder

I am looking forward to another great week at Haigh! It is so nice to have the kids back in class. They have been doing a great job at keeping their masks on, transporting materials to and from school, and keeping their distance from their peers.

Peek at Our Week

Good morning Haigh families! I know families are anxious to get their children back in the classroom this week. I am excited to welcome them back and enjoy an “almost” full day of school with them. Please note that the schedule for this week is a bit choppy due to teacher vaccinations at the end of the week. Therefore, your child will only be coming “in person” one day this week. Special teacher schedules will remain the same as in the past until next week, the 15th where students will have 3 live special Zoom sessions throughout the day when they are not in class. I will have link’s provided for students in a newly updated assignment sheet for you to keep your Haigh owl organized.

This weeks Schedule:

  • Monday–Welcome back “A” group 9:40-2:20- Please line up by our orange cone by the 3rd grade doors. “B” group please log on to Zoom at 8:40 to check in with me for attendance and directions for the day.
  • Tuesday–Welcome back “B” group 9:40-2:20- Pease line up by our orange cone by the 3rd grade doors. “A” group please log on to Zoom at 8:40 to check in with me for attendance and directions for the day.
  • Wednesday—Both “A” group and “B” group are virtual/remote; please login at 8:40 to begin reading/writing
  • Thursday–Asynchronous learning day. This means your child does not need to check in with me but will have assignments to do. Please refer to the assignment sheet and Schoology for directions. There will be an end of unit reading test scheduled for this day for your child to complete. Please encourage them to take their time and go back in the text to confirm their answers.
  • Friday—Both “A” group and “B” group are virtual/remote; please login at 8:40 to begin reading/writing
  • There are no longer learning labs scheduled this week as we transition to hybrid learning.
  • Click here for the assignment sheet

Key items to remember for your child as they are coming back to the building:

  • Every child MUST wear a mask
  • Parents should be using the covid screener to evaluate if their child should stay home from school for the day
  • Children should bring a reusable water bottle with their name on it. Water fountains are not available at this time
  • Students must bring their reading book, all 3 math books, a pencil bag or box that has pencils/crayons in it, and a fully charged chrome book (if they borrowed one from school) each day to class. They will transport these items back and forth each time they come to the building. PLEASE be sure they have these items, as they will need them to complete daily lessons; we have no extra.
  • Please pack your child a healthy snack. This is important and needed since 3rd grade has the last lunch. Your child will be eating around 1:40 in the afternoon.

Other reminders for the week:

  • Innovation opinion essay is due Wednesday
  • End of unit reading test on Thursday (Asynchronous day)
  • The end of the marking period is quickly approaching (March 19th) so PLEASE be sure to encourage your children to complete missing assignments, tests, and quizzes. This week’s asynecerhous day and afternoons are a good time for them to review their assignments and make sure all are complete and submitted.  I am constantly reminding students each morning on Zoom, but some are still not following through. You should be receiving a report from Schoology each Sunday; please take a moment to review this with your child. These life long habits will ensure your child is being a successful learner.

Finally, if you are unsure of a schedule or have any questions, please contact me via email halimia@dearbornschools.org I will get back to you as soon as I can. I am excited to see your child return to the classroom this week. While the schedule is a bit tricky, and their may be bumps along the way, I am sure that if we work together it will all fall into place.

Peek at Our Week

Good evening Haigh Families. I hope you had a chance to enjoy this peek of spring weather we had this weekend. It sure was nice to get out and enjoy the sunshine and fresh air again.

This week we will continue with our remote instruction in the morning followed by in person learning labs in the afternoon. Please be sure to line up at the orange cone outside the 3rd grade doors.

MARCH is Reading Month

Reading is a Ticket to Adventure!

Tomorrow begins March is reading month. Your child will be getting a reading log when they come into learning labs this week. Please encourage them to read the recommended amount of minutes each night and record it on the log. We will have prize drawings for students returning it to school after break. Click here for the reading month calendar. This year it is interactive and students can click on the links to go on a reading adventure. I will also link this under resources in Schoology and on the weekly assignment sheet.

Reminders for the week:

  • Topic B quiz in math tomorrow
  • Reading quiz in informational text on Tuesday
  • Assignment sheet
  • Next week on March 8th will be 3rd grade’s first “hybrid” day. I will share more information later this week.

This week we will work on comparing unit fractions and specifying the whole to help us develop a deeper understanding of fractions. Students will take a quick quiz on topic B material from last week.

In reading we will continue to read more nonfiction articles about innovations in technology. We will work on composing our opinion essay using the collection chart we filled in last week.

In social studies we will learn about the impact the British had on the Native Americans and the French when they came to Michigan.

Looking forward to a great first week in March!
