Peek at our Virtual Week :)

on March 15, 2020

Good afternoon Haigh families. I hope each and everyone of you are doing well as we navigate through this unfamiliar time. These next few weeks away from the classroom may feel a little strange, but I am hopeful that with the extra precautions put into place we will be back in school happy and healthy come April. In the meantime, I would like to extend my hand in helping provide a regular learning routine in your home. I will post each Sunday or Monday a suggested list of assignments to ensure your child is continuing to grow academically. Students will do a majority of their work on Google Classroom (please refer to my previous post for a how to list).

Please keep reading for the suggested list of assignments for the week of 3-16-2020:

(Be sure to SUBMIT all assignments when completed on Google Classroom so I can see them.)

Reading:

  • Scholastic News Learn at home lessons for 20 days. Read the non-fiction articles for days 1-5 and complete the assignments that follow. They have some great articles on here guys! You will love learning about the hottest and coldest places on Earth, an awesome domino designer, and a cool new invention to pick up trash!
    • Be sure to type your responses into the sheet labeled Scholastic News Work.
    • Some questions ask you to draw or design something so please skip those and practice them on paper at home.
  • Readworks articles will be shared through Google Classroom. Please plan to do 1 article and question set a day. Remember you can use the tools to highlight, take notes, and zoom in. Please remember to split the screen so you can use your good reading skills to GO BACK in the text to find your answer. Here are the titles of the articles.
    • Gasping for Air
    • The High Dive
    • Out West
    • Trouble in the Amazon
    • Happy Trails
  • Read a book of your choice and write about it. Write a summary, ask questions, make inferences, create a new ending…..just read for enjoyment and keep that reading stamina up 🙂

Writing:

  • Prompt of the Week- Is it better for students to learn online or at school?
  • Print and fill out the blueprint answering the prompt. If you don’t have a printer available, simply duplicate it on regular notebook paper.
  • Type your paper in your Google Classroom titled Opinion Paper. This paper will be due on Sunday, March 22nd. I look forward to hearing what you think as your first week of homeschool. Remember, everything is saved on the google form so it is okay to work on it a little bit each day.
  • Use the checklist to make sure you included everything.

Math

  • Watch video for lessons 11,12,13,14,and 15 Unit 5 Video Tutorials. One lesson video per day.
  • After watching each day’s lesson video on the link above, complete the matching lesson on Zearn. One lesson per day.
  • Once finished with Zearn lesson, complete the matching lesson homework in the Succeed Math Book.
  • Remember you are at home, so take some time out and play some FUN math games to ensure your stay on top of your multiplication fluency.

Science

  • Mystery Science– How do germs get inside your body? Watch the video. Use some of this information in your opinion writing assignment for an extra bonus point.

Social Studies

  • Watch this video on how KIDS become entrepreneurs
  • What is an entrepreneur?
  • Challenge yourself to think of a cool business idea. What can you make that solves a problem?

Please let me know how I can help you. Have a great week working in your PJ’s. Alex and Austen will be doing the same things as you all. I will miss you all:)
