Peek at Our Week

on January 5, 2020

Happy new year Haigh families! I cannot believe how fast the holidays flew by. All good things must come to an end and I am ready to get back into a routine. I hope you all enjoyed your time with your precious little ones, I know I did. I am sure I will be hearing all about the fun times, vacations, and experiences you had with your children.

Reminders for the week:

  • Little Caesars Pizza Kit sales 1/6-1/17
  • Library check out is tomorrow
  • Animals and the Environment assembly on Friday 🙂

This week in reading we will be working on identifying the main idea in a non-fiction text. We will learn how to first identify the topic and use it to ask ourselves what is the whole text, small paragraph, or section about. We will look at supporting our ideas with 3 details directly from the text. In writing we will work on writing about our winter break and then move into writing an informational paper about SNOW! Maybe if we write about it we will get some to enjoy soon! I am not a fan of snow, but the mild temperatures over the break sure didn’t make it feel like Christmas! However, I did get to try out my new running shoes 🙂

In math this week we will begin our new unit which is more multiplication topics.

In social studies we will continue to learn about Michigan history and Michigan’s path to becoming a state.

Academic Vocabulary:

  1. Main idea—what a text is mostly about.
  2. Voyageur- people who moved the furs through the Great Lakes.
  3. Explorer- someone who travels in order to discover some place new.
  4. Detail- a fact about the topic that supports the main idea.

Looking forward to seeing all my students smiling faces in the morning! Good luck getting your kids to bed tonight, I know my little ones are going to have a rough Monday morning getting back into the swing of things!
