Important Forms in your child’s folder (please look over tonight)!

Hello Families,

Today, your child will be coming home with some IMPORTANT information regarding the classroom and school news!

  1.  Your child is coming home with a sight word list handout.  Please read the (pink) cover letter as it has step by step instructions on how to work with your child at home with LIST ONE sight words. Just as we did with letters and letter sounds, we will be testing your child on their ability to read our 1st list of sight words. We will check off the ones that they were able to read, and highlight the words that they were not able to read.  The first test, for sight word LIST ONE will be on Friday, November 3rd.  You will have at least 3 weeks to go over each list at home.  Just focus on list one for the next 3 weeks:)
  2. Your child is coming home with a Savory Sweets fundraising form.  All orders are due on Friday, October 27th.  Make sure to share the brochure with family and friends and post it on any social media sights you may use.  You will be entered to win a trip for 4 to Disney with every 25th unit sold.  So, if you sell 25 items, you will be entered in the drawing!  Sell, SELL, Sell!  If you have any questions, please email baydounh1@gmail.com
  3. Week 7 homework was sent home today.  Please make sure to use the cover page to help explain to your child  how to complete each side for homework each day.  Also, don’t forget to read with your child (document on reading log) and practice the letter/sound handout that went home with your child!  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email me:)

Newsletter for Week 6 (Recap & NEW info)!

What we did during our week:

Language Arts and Writing: We worked on recognizing and writing the letter E and the letter V.   Click on the link (on the letters)  we learned this week!  I have attached the videos we watch in class to guide us in our learning!  Also,  make sure to ask your child what sound each letter makes.

We have been working more on our writing. I am sure you have noticed a difference in your child’s writing; I know I have!  We are practicing stretching out the sounds in a word and using some inventive spelling during our writer’s workshop.  If your child is coming home and trying to stretch out the sounds, that is wonderful news!  It means they are one step closer to becoming a leader in reading and writing!

Math: We practiced recognizing, writing and representing numbers 11 and 12. **Again, we now have math seeds! Please start to use this at home in addition to reading eggs. The login and password is the same for math seeds!  Everyone’s password is: kind. We’ve been having fun with our Halloween math centers this week: we have been working on tens frames, and one-to-one correspondence with numbers during our math centers. I have attached some pictures for your viewing pleasure!

Science: We have moved onto our next science unit – push and pull!  Ask your child what the difference is between push and pull.  They should be able to show you the difference:)

Social Studies: We are still working on how to get along with others by using the words like, “please,” “thank you” and using their words to express their feelings.

Housekeeping items:

  • Thank you all the families that showed up to our parent meeting!  I hope you were able to take away some ideas to better help engage your child at home with reading and writing!
  • Costume parade has been changed to October 31st, on Halloween!  More information to follow!
  • We have yet again, missed another book check out date.  Please make sure your child is not leaving their book in their locker. Books should stay in their backpacks or a safe place at home until the next check out date.  Thank you!
  • I hope you have went over the letter/sound handout that went out Thursday, with your child!  Please use this handout to better help support your child’s needs at home.
  • Our classroom celebration fund is due next Friday!  We are asking all families to donate $10 (or more) to our classroom fund to help lessen the cost of our classroom parties!  Thank you in partnering with me to make this year an eventful one for our children!   BIG thank you to the parents who have already made a donation to our fund!  We thank you!

October 18th- Late Start.  Students will arrive at 9:35 a.m.

Please Read~ Important Information Coming Home

Hello Room 42 Families!

I want to thank all the families that were able to attend our Kindergarten Parent Meeting!  I hope you found the information helpful as you continue to work with your child at home in reading in writing.
Today at the Kindergarten meeting, we discussed a letter/sound handout that your child will be coming home with.  This handout is a current standing of what letters your child can recognize (upper and lowercase) and what sounds your child knows.   The letters and or sounds your child does not demonstrate yet, will be highlighted in yellow!  These are the letters and sounds to work with your child at home.   This handout can be used as a checklist to see how your child is progressing with the letters/sounds at home.  There is a huge push for EACH child to read proficiently by 3rd grade throughout the state.  Your child learning their letters and sounds is the first, and most important, step in helping them become leaders in READING and WRITING!  This handout will be coming home in your child’s folder today!  If you have any questions please let me know!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Fillmore

Newsletter for Week 5 (recap and NEW info)!

Newsletter for October 5th:

What we did during our week:

Even with a short week, we got through a lot!

Language Arts and Writing: We worked on recognizing and writing the letter D and the letter W. Our Daily 5 is in full swing! We have been building stamina as we ‘read to self’.  Also, please ask your child the 3 Ways to Read a Book: Look at the picture, read the words and retell the story.  Try to use the 3 ways to read a book at home with your child:)

Math: We practiced recognizing, writing and representing numbers 9 and 10.  We also have been learning about tally marks and 10 frames!

Science: We took a 5 senses assessment!

Other: We had a ton of fun on our field trip – it was great to see so many parents!

Housekeeping items:

  • The Kindergarten parent meeting is Thursday, October 12th! – more information will be sent home with your child on Monday about this.   Our goal is to provide you information on any questions you may have with our reading and writing processes.  You don’t want to miss it:)  Please check your child’s folder and log DAILY for up to date information!  Please EMPTY out any work that says “KEEP at home.”  Thank you!
  • I cannot stress enough the importance of reading with your child daily and documenting the books read in your child’s reading log, located in their homework!  You can use the library book (from Haigh), reading eggs, books from the Dearborn public library, or even books from home to help complete their reading log.  If you need any other resources in finding books to read with your child, please let me know.  I am happy to help!
  • If your child didn’t turn in homework today, please make sure to bring it on Monday!  I keep record of what child brings in homework or not.  Thank you so much for  fostering a strong importance in your child’s academics!
  • There will be no school tomorrow for Kindergarten Friday, October 6th.  Have a great weekend!
  • Our Kindergarten students could not participate in the popcorn sale because we are not here on Friday.  If you sent money for the popcorn sale, it was sent back in your child’s folder.  Thank you for your understanding in this matter.
  • Some children are still having a hard time tying  their shoes.  Here is a You Tube video I saw online that I used to teach my daughter to tie her shoes:)  Click here for the link.  Hope this helps!
  • Don’t forget to bring in a light, healthy snack for your child each day (crackers, grapes, bananas, apple, goldfish, granola bars, etc)!  No juice please.   A reusable water is perfect to have in the classroom.
  • GREAT news!  Mathseeds is now available! When you log on to your child’s Reading Eggs account, there will be an additional tab for math seeds.  Math Seeds and Reading Eggs will help excel your child in both content areas.  Please make sure to log in frequently and have fun with your child with these free learning programs the school purchased:)
  • Your child will be coming home with a Classroom Celebration Fund handout from my room moms!  We are asking each of our families for a donation to put towards our celebration fund to help lessen the cost of our Holiday Celebrations.  The donation is due Friday, October 20th (just in time for our Halloween Celebration)!  If you have any questions about this, please don’t hesitate to ask or email my room moms.  Thank you so much:)

Count day (TOMORROW), Homework & a field trip picture:)

Greetings!

Tomorrow is the BIG day…COUNT DAY!  Please make sure your child is in attendance for tomorrow.  It is very important your child is accounted for and comes to school for our Haigh head count!

Also, since this week is a short week because we have NO school on Friday and we had the field trip today, homework will be due on Monday, October 9th.  Hopefully, this extra time will allow for you all to work closely with your child and be able to read a story comfortably for 10-15 minutes each night:)

Here are a few pictures from the Apple Orchard today!  We had so much fun learning about the apple life cycle, picking our apples and pumpkins, eating donuts and playing around the farm.  Thanks to all the families who attended today!  Your extra hands were much appreciated:)

Love, Mrs. Fillmore

Reminders for field trip & other information

Greetings! Here are some important reminders for tomorrow and Wednesday:

  • Tomorrow is our field trip day!  Please make sure to send your child to school that day with a BROWN BAG lunch.  Everything should be disposable.  The teachers will not carry any lunch boxes or water bottles at the farm.  If you are worried about your child’s food getting warm, you can freeze your child’s juice box in the freezer the night before and place in their bag Tuesday morning.  I would put the juice box in a ziploc bag, that way the condensation from the drink does not saturate the brown bag lunch.
  • Make sure your child bring his/her backpacks to school!  Students will also be asked to bring their backpacks to carry their apple and pumpkin home from the farm. PLEASE empty out any unnecessary things in your child’s backpack before sending them to school on Tuesday:).  If you plan to meet us at the orchard the address is: 10685 Warren Rd, Plymouth, 48170.  You will pay admission once you arrive.
  •  Again: Please make sure there is only a brown lunch bag and green folder in your child’s backpack before coming to school.  Thank you for your cooperation in this matter!
  • COUNT DAY is this WEDNESDAY!  Please make sure to send your child to school this day, it’s very important they are accounted for!  Thank you!

Newsletter for Week 4 (Recap and new info)!

What we did during our week:

Language Arts and Writing: We worked on recognizing and writing the letter C and the letter X. We also learned the sounds for each letter.

Math: We practiced recognizing, writing and representing numbers 7 and 8. In addition, we learned about diamonds and ovals.

Science: We are finishing up our 5 senses – and we have been learning about apples this week. The students were able to use their five senses for our apple tasting activity! After, we voted on our favorite kind of apple, graphed our results and wrote about it in class:)

Other: We finished up our NWEA Testing, the students are writing their Learning Goals in Reading, Math and Behavior and tested students on letter and sound identification.  It was a busy week!

Housekeeping items:

* For the field trip this Tuesday, children are expected to bring a brown bag lunch. Teachers will not carry any lunch boxes or water bottles. If you are worried about your child’s food getting warm, you can freeze your child’s juice box in the freezer the night before and place in their bag Tuesday morning.  I would put the juice box in a ziploc bag, that way the condensation from the drink does not saturate the brown bag lunch. Hope this helps!

* Please remember to pack a light, healthy snack for your child EACH day and please let them know if they are bringing a lunch from home or getting a school lunch.  Please refer to the October lunch menu that was sent home this week.  Thank you.

* Thank you to all the parents who provided their child with reusable water bottles. What a life saver it has been in the classroom!

* Please remember to sign and EMPTY your child’s green folder every night on the side that says “KEEP at home.”

* Sometimes your child isn’t able to complete classwork in the classroom. If this happens, I will write a note that says “HW (homework)” and would like the worksheet returned the next day. If your child is unable to complete the work in class, for whatever reason, I still would like them to get the extra support at home to learn the concepts missed in class.  Thank you for your cooperation in this matter:)

* There will be NO SCHOOL this Friday for Kindergarten students only.

Upcoming Events:

October 3rd – Field Trip to Apple Orchard (read blog post for Reminders 9/29 for more info)

October 6th- No School for Kindergarten ONLY!

October 6th- Outdoor Movie Night 6:00 p.m.

October 12th- Kindergarten Parent meeting (8-8:30 am)  More information to follow

October 13th- 1/2 day for students 11:40 a.m. dismissal

Have a great weekend to all my families!  If you ever need to contact me, please email me, it is the most effective method for our busy days:)  Thank you so much!
