Today in your child’s folder you will see his/her report card. Please take the report card out of the manila envelope, sign the envelope under 2nd Card marking and return the envelope back into your child’s folder. Thank you!
Also, the February lunch menu and February Haigh Calendars are in your child’s folder as well!
Another reminder: homework is due tomorrow. We will have our spelling and math test tomorrow due to NO school of Friday, February 2nd.
Hello parents! As you may have noticed, the homework is the same from last week. This is great in many ways! It means your child has a better understanding of how to complete the homework (independently) and also means they can spiral back from previous learning and add more ideas to their sentences/pictures, etc.
Reading Bags- As you may have noticed, your child has had the same reading books for the last couple of weeks. The reason for this is because we have been testing your child’s current academic standing and will be looking at the data on February 2nd. Once our team has had the instructional dialogues about our students, I will be able to send home the current reading level your child is on and also some books they are learning how to read. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Reading Eggs is a great tool to utilize for reading at home!
Remember: Homework is due this Thursday as well as the spelling test (un words) and math test (+5) . Don’t forget to study the cold words provided on the homework! There is no school this Friday, February 2nd. If you have any questions, please ask me at anytime. Thank you!
I want your child to be a successful reader, and for that, I need your help.
When children choose their own books to read for pleasure, they enjoy reading more and spend more time doing it. The more your child reads, the better they will do in school and in life.
Scholastic Book Clubs flyers are made for you and your child to shop for books your child will love to read. Each month, the flyers are filled with trusted, excellent quality, age-appropriate books chosen by Scholastic for prices as low as one dollar. You will see the flyer online once you log in.
Plus you will be helping our class when you order: Scholastic matches each order you place with FREE BOOKS for our classroom to share. How awesome is that?
Thank you for helping your child become a successful reader. *All orders are done exclusively online.*
Sincerely,
Mrs. Fillmore

Remember: There is NO school this Friday, February 2nd! Our spelling/math test will be on Thursday, February 1st.
What we did during our week:
Language Arts: We worked on -op words and onset and rime. We have officially learned all the letters of the alphabet! Make sure to focus on these letters/sounds at home to observe if your child has mastered each letter/ sound that was taught in class. Spelling words to study for next week: List 6: like, see, my, if, and, fun, run, bun, sun Please practice the extra -un words, as there will be an extra bonus word for number 10 on the test! Extra words: spun. Our 6th test will be Thursday, February 1st.
Writing: In writing, we finished our star student book! We are also learning how to use finger spaces in our sentences, write from left to right and using punctuation at the end of our sentences! Please practice this at home when writing sentences with sight words!
Math: We started our unit on addition and will continue addition into February! We have a little bit of everything during our math workshop: measurement, addition, counting, missing numbers, tally marks and one to one correspondence!
Math Quizzes: We have a math quiz on Thursday, February 1st on math facts +5! Please make the flashcards at home for your child to help them prepare for their math quiz. For extra practice at home (instead of the flash cards), you could also use counters (or food) for a visual representation of the math equation for your child. You can also practice with your child by having them put the big number in their head and the small number on their hands and then count up. Try to make it fun! Thank you for supporting your child with their addition skills!
Science: We are focusing on Polar Climate this month! We are having a lot of fun with this topic! 🙂
Social Studies: We learning history~Who am I? We had so much fun going over each of our timeline projects with our friends! Our hallway and classroom are decorated with all of the timelines…we love looking at them:)
Reading Buddies:We will not have reading buddies again until February 9th due to testing and other scheduling issues.
Other:
ATTENTION: As you will notice on the homework next week, the reading log format has changed! The reading log will now be located on the front cover of the homework!! The reading log will look like a table. All you will have to do, with your child, is have your child write the title of the book they read each day and color in a face if they liked the book or not. If you have any questions about this, please ask me at anytime or email me:) Thank you!!
In Social Studies we are learning about “Who am I?” A wonderful way to allow students to visually experience their own past is to create a TIMELINE PROJECT!
We had a great turnout for our spelling tests, but a lot of our students missed the cold word: chop. The purpose of the bonus word is to assess whether the children understand the word family pattern of each word ending in the same two letters -op. Please make sure to study the cold words, as well as well as the 9 spelling words at home:) I will send the booklet home on Monday for you all to see how your child did:). Remember, to look over your child’s spelling test booklet, sign on the line and return the booklet in the green folder the very next day (TUESDAY)! It is imperative I receive them all back the next day! Thank you!
The students did very well for their math test +4, only a handful missing 4 or more! If your child is not performing at 70% or above, I suggest making flash cards for your child to practice at home with! Way to go to my students. I am so proud of you!!
Housekeeping items:*
The cover letter of the homework packet has changed! You will notice a different format when assisting your child in their homework. For spelling words students are asked to only write 5 words in alphabetical order. Next, they will use each word in a sentence. Third, they will draw a picture( in the box) to match the sentence and finally write a word that rhymes with each word. The homework will consist of doing a worksheet each day along with reading a book and logging it onto the reading log. Please complete homework in its entirety. If you have questions, refer to the cover sheet for directions and or additional concepts to work on at home. If you have any questions, you can ask me at anytime. Thank you for your cooperation!
If you send your child to school with snow boots, please send in an extra pair of shoes your child can independently change into themselves.
On Gym Days (Thursday and Friday), please make sure to send your child to school in Gym Shoes! Mr. Peecher will have the kids sit on the stage if they are not wearing appropriate gym attire. Your child’s safety is our main priority. Thank you!
Parents, I need your help! When you send in money for your child, whether it be for lunch, lunchroom snacks, field trip, please enclose the money in an ENVELOPE with your child’s FIRST and LAST name on the front, what the money is for and my name written as well Mrs. Fillmore. This will cause for less confusion for the lunch room and for the classroom. Thank you!
Please make sure to log onto math seeds and reading eggs when there is downtime at home, especially on the weekends! I have laminated and attached logins/passwords for EACH child on their communication log this week! Please keep this in a safe place, so it doesn’t get lost. These programs are free for you to use, how awesome is that? All you need to do is to show your child how to log in and they can begin learning! Parents, in the classroom, I am trying to teach each child to login typing their own username and password…independency is the name of the game! If you could be so kind, to help your child do the same at home, it would help so much! Thank you!
Your child will keep their library books for another 2 weeks. Next, book check out will be February 9th:)
