Pajama Day Tomorrow!

Hello Families!

Tomorrow the students are able to wear school appropriate pajamas!  Please do not send your child to school in shorts, tank tops or slippers.   If your child chooses to wear a nightgown, please make sure your child is wearing some sort of pants/leggings under their nightgown.  If your child chooses to wear a one piece, footed pajama, please make sure that your child knows how to get in and out of it and also that they wear some sort of undergarment underneath the pajama like a tank top and shorts.  Please note, footed pajamas will have to be worn with shoes.  Your child will not be able to be in school without shoes on.  I hope this answers any and all questions for tomorrow!  We can’t wait for pajama day:)

  • Please consider buying something from our Scholastic Book Club at: https://clubs.scholastic.com/  Activation code: RKYTJ.  The December orders are due by December 17th.  There are a lot of great books for your child at a very reasonable price and FREE shipping.  Books make for a great gift or even for a family story night:) Thank you to Ethan for purchasing something from our book club!
  • Please make sure you are reviewing your child’s classwork each night.  Monitoring your child’s classwork is a great indicator of how your child is doing in the class. If for some reason your child doesn’t finish his/her classwork in class, I will send it home for homework to be completed at home and returned the next day.  Thank you for your support!
  • Please make sure you provide your child with a NUT FREE snack.   We are a NUT FREE classroom. Thank you for your cooperation!

Housekeeping items:

  • The cold/winter season is upon us, which means cooler temperatures!  With cooler temperatures comes coats, boots, hats, scarves, gloves, etc.  It is important to teach your child how to properly put on a coat, zip up a coat, unzip the coat and take the coat off.  We have a handful of students who constantly need help putting on their coats etc, which means more time is taken away from recess because the teacher is zipping up 24 coats!  Also, please continue to practice tying shoes with your child. It is very hard to tie 2 pair of shoes X 24 students a day! That equals 48 shoes a day I would be tying, which would take up a lot of time during large and small group instruction.  We are encouraging students to become independent learners and with independence takes a lot of dedication and teaching your child at home. Thank you for your cooperation:)
  • If your child is bringing a home lunch, it is OK to pack a juice for the lunchroom!  Remember to pack a water bottle each day for the classroom:)
  • Please pack your child’s snack SEPARATELY from your child’s home lunch.  This will help your child become less confused about what is for lunch and what is for snack.  Thank you:)
  • Great news!  The PTA has a blog for all sorts of fun information going on in the school.  I may not have a lot of opportunities for all families to volunteer in the classroom, but the PTA is ALWAYS looking for extra hands to help in the school.  Please take a look at their blog and sign up for the fun events they may need help with:)  https://parents.dearbornschools.org/haigh/

Newsletter Week 14 (Recap and NEW Info)!

Spelling tests start the week of December 3rd!  Homework will reflect the 10 spelling words we are focusing on each week.  Our spelling tests will generally take place every Friday. Each test, for the whole year, is taken in 1 booklet. Our FIRST spelling test is this Friday, December 7th.   I will grade the tests over the weekend and send the booklet home with your child the following Monday for you to view. Please look through the test on Monday (to see how your child performed), sign on the parent signature line and send the booklet back in their green folder on Tuesday. Please make sure that the booklet comes back every Tuesday so I can collect them to distribute again on Friday for the following test.   If for some reason your child loses the booklet, you will be responsible for making them another spelling booklet. Remember: your child will have to spell and write each word in the booklet. When you practice the words, please make sure your child is forming each letter correctly.  Your cooperation is appreciated!

Also, Module 3 starts in math as well.  Please make sure you are following the lessons in Module 3 at home:).

Urgent: If your child wears a pair of SNOW boots to school, please pack your child a 2nd pair of shoes to wear in the classroom.  We want to prevent the snow from tracking onto our rugs and our floors, so please teach your child how to change out of their boots and into their school shoes.  I myself, can’t change students out of their boots and into their shoes at arrival due to the morning obligations I need to address. Each child should be practicing this at home and doing it independently at school.  Thank you for your cooperation:)

Hello Families,

I would like to take a moment and give thanks to all of you!  I am so grateful to work in a district where education comes first and where parents truly care about their child’s future.  I receive so many “thank you” notes and or cards throughout the week and I just want you to all know I see them and I read them.    Those small gestures of “thanks” really gives me satisfaction in knowing that this is where I am meant to be!  I am thankful for my students and families at Haigh Elementary!
