Housekeeping items:

  • The cold/winter season is upon us, which means cooler temperatures!  With cooler temperatures comes coats, boots, hats, scarves, gloves, etc.  It is important to teach your child how to properly put on a coat, zip up a coat, unzip the coat and take the coat off.  We have a handful of students who constantly need help putting on their coats etc, which means more time is taken away from recess because the teacher is zipping up 24 coats!  Also, please continue to practice tying shoes with your child. It is very hard to tie 2 pair of shoes X 24 students a day! That equals 48 shoes a day I would be tying, which would take up a lot of time during large and small group instruction.  We are encouraging students to become independent learners and with independence takes a lot of dedication and teaching your child at home. Thank you for your cooperation:)

Valentine’s Day/100th day of School!

What a F.U.N DAY in Kindergarten!  We kicked off our morning with fun Valentine’s Day Crafts (make sure to look in your child’s folder:)), followed by our card exchange and finally ending our day with our 100th day celebration in the afternoon!  This day wouldn’t have been at all possible if I didn’t have my room moms buying all the supplies and prepping all the items before the party and also it wouldn’t have been possible without our wonderful parent volunteers helping at different stations!  The students looked adorable all dressed up as 100 years old; even Granny Fillmore came to celebrate our 100 days with us too;)  I hope you enjoy the pictures.

Ps: tomorrow is our spelling test, homework is due and it’s a half day.  All students will be dismissed at 11:40a.m.  Have a great night everyone!

Information about Dingell Funeral tomorrow Feb. 12th

February 11, 2019

Evening Haigh Community:

As many of you know, Congressman John Dingell passed away on February 7th, 2019. On Tuesday morning, February 12th, Divine Child will be having a funeral mass for Mr. Dingell that will be open to the public. The time of the service is 11:00am, but media coverage will be starting at 9:00am.  This means that we will see a large increase in traffic around our school. Haigh has been in communication with our District Office and the Dearborn Police Department in preparation for this large event. We are taking the following steps to help with the traffic and security of our building:

  • Dearborn Police Officers will be stationed up and down Silvery Lane from Cherry Hill to Wilson. Silvery Lane from Wilson to Ford Road will   be closed. Cherry Hill Road will be open to traffic.

  • We will have inside line up starting at 8:25am (students will line up next to their lockers or at their normal inside line up location). No parents or guests should enter the building with their student(s). Students coming for breakfast can enter the front main entrance at 8:15am.

  • Haigh staff will be visible at our drop off locations, entrance doors, and throughout our hallways.

  • During the school day we will have inside recess and students will not be permitted to go outside.

  • All doors will be locked as usual and parents who want to visit Haigh will have to use the front buzzer system to enter our building. We are asking that our community limits visits to our building tomorrow between the hours of 9:00am and 2:00pm.

  • For afternoon dismissal, all Haigh staff will again be visible at grade level doors, throughout the building, and by our pick up locations. Any student that does not have a parent, sibling, or guardian present will be brought to our front office to call for a ride home. This event is scheduled to end by 1:00pm and traffic should be cleared by 2:00pm

Overall, we are taking these precautions to make sure that all of our students are safe and accounted for. Thank you for your help and support with the arrival and departure of our students.

Mr. Short

That equals 48 shoes a day I would be tying, which would take up a lot of time during large and small group instruction.  We are encouraging students to become independent learners and with independence takes a lot of dedication and teaching your child at home. Thank you for your cooperation.
  • If your child is bringing a home lunch, it is OK to pack a juice for the lunchroom!  Remember to pack a water bottle each day for the classroom:)
  • Please pack your child’s snack SEPARATELY from your child’s home lunch.  This will help your child become less confused about what is for lunch and what is for snack.  Thank you:)
  • Great news!  The PTA has a blog for all sorts of fun information going on in the school.  I may not have a lot of opportunities for all families to volunteer in the classroom, but the PTA is ALWAYS looking for extra hands to help in the school.  Please take a look at their blog and sign up for the fun events they may need help with:)  https://parents.dearbornschools.org/haigh/
