Reading Bags/New Books Information!

Hello again! A new January reading log was placed in your child’s reading bag today:) You will notice that your child will have the same books in his/her bags for the next few weeks. January is a BIG testing month in Kindergarten and I will be assessing each child on their independent reading level, testing them on NWEA, and many more assessments based in reading. Please be patient with me as I assess all 24 students. You may utilize Reading Eggs, RAZ-Kids, the weekly library book, and your child’s own books at home during this testing month. The expected time to read with your child is 10-15 minutes each day. Please make sure you are noting each time you read with your child on his/her reading log. Also, please make sure you practice with your child how to retell a story from beginning, middle and end. I will be assessing your child’s comprehension skills as well. Thank you for your cooperation during this busy testing time:)

Spelling Booklets!

Welcome Back:):) Spelling words start this week!  Each week, the communication log will list the 9 spelling words to practice spelling with your child at home and 1 BONUS/COLD word you will have to practice with your child at home!  Our spelling tests will generally take place every Friday. Each test, for the whole year, is taken in 1 booklet. Our FIRST spelling test is this Friday, January 10th.   I will grade the tests over the weekend and send the booklet home with your child the following Monday for you to view. Please look through the test on Monday (to see how your child performed), sign on the parent signature line and send the booklet back in their green folder on Tuesday. Please make sure that the booklet comes back every Tuesday so I can distribute them on Friday for the following test.   If for some reason your child loses the booklet, you will be responsible for making them another spelling booklet. Remember: your child will have to spell and write each word in the booklet. When you practice the words with your child at home, please make sure your child is forming each letter correctly (or the word will be wrong).  Your cooperation is appreciated! Thank you!

Polar Express/ PJ Information for Dec. 19th!

Hello Families!

On December 19th, the students are able to wear school appropriate pajamas for our Polar Express day!  Please do not send your child to school in shorts or tank tops.  If your child chooses to wear a nightgown, please make sure your child is wearing some sort of pants/leggings under their nightgown.  If your child chooses to wear a one piece, footed pajama, please make sure that your child knows how to get in and out of it and also that they wear some sort of undergarment underneath the pajama like a tank top and shorts.  Please note, footed pajamas will have to be worn with shoes since we go outside twice a day.  Students may bring a pair of slippers to change into, but they must know how to put their shoes on independently. They may also bring a stuffed animal for the show:) I hope this answers any and all questions for Polar Express Day!  We can’t wait for pajama day:)

Also, we will be serving hot pancakes and hot chocolate to the students in the morning, just like they do on the polar express! Make sure they come hungry:) Thank you to my families who donated to our Polar Express party! This can’t be possible without all of you!
