Week 4~ Remote Learning Activities for 4/13

Here are the plans for the week! This is the new template I will be using each week:) Anything that is blue is a link you can click on that will either take you to the needed webpage or worksheet you may need. We have added the spelling lists so you are able to practice the spelling patterns they need to know before 1st grade. We have also updated the math lessons for the week so you are able to keep up in their succeed workbook. We hope you have fun with this weeks lessons!

Parent Connect~ Viewing Report Cards!

As card marking 3 comes to a close, parents will be accessing report cards through Parent Connect as we cannot print them and send them home with your child. It is my understanding that all parents have access to Parent Connect. This is where you can add money to your child’s lunch account, call in absences, view grades, etc.

Since this is a new way of getting the report cards dispersed to families, we are not sure when exactly they will be available, but the goal is by Monday (April 6th). My recommendation for now is to make sure your Parent Connect account is set up and active so when they are released, you will be able to access everything you need. As soon as I know more about the exact date, I will let you all know.

1. How do parents login to ParentConnect?

To login to ParentConnect, parents need their PIN and password; there are 2 options to get this information. Option 1 : Parents go to Dearborn Schools web site then ParentConnect link. If they don’t know the login info, they click (Need Your Login Information) link and it will prompt them to enter their email address as provided to the school and entered in MIStar (Menu/Enrollment/Student Editor/Contacts) and click Submit. This process emails them their PIN and Password.

Option 2 : If parents are unable to receive the email (no email, etc) and administrators need to provide the info, administrators can access MIStar Menu / System / ParentConnect Manager / Contacts Passwords as indicated below. Even though Option 2 is available for administrators, Option 1 is recommended because parents have to login to their email to retrieve the info and you can always add the email in Student Editor/Contacts if missing.

2. What is available in ParentConnect?
Following is the information that parents can see in ParentConnect.

ParentConnect ModuleHow it relates to Report Cards
Attendance Detail Information
Attendance Summary Information
Cafeteria Information
Class Assignment InformationThis module represents the Gradebook information. Data is available as soon as teachers update their gradebook. It has been launched for all High Schools, all Middle Schools and Elementary Schools only if elementary teachers shared their gradebook in the setup.
GPA Information
Parent Reported Absence
Report Card MarksThis module represents the Report Cards information. Grades, including comments and notes are available as soon as our office finalizes the processing of the report cards and based on a date that is set for data to display. It has been launched for all High Schools, all Middle Schools and all Elementary Schools that will see a link to the Standard Report Card.
Schedule Information
School / Classroom News
Teacher / Counselor Email Links
Testing Information
Transcript Information

I hope this helps. If you have any questions or have trouble logging into your account, please contact that Dearborn Help Desk at (313) 827-3030. I do not have access to any family’s personal login information for Parent Connect.

Week 2 Activities: March 23-27th

Hello Families! I am writing this blog in hopes I can help organize your week a little better:) Things to complete this week:

Reading- Make sure to complete 20 minutes of reading a day, either on RAZ-Kids, Reading Eggs or a book from home. If you read a book from home, make sure to fill out the comprehension sheet that I have attached here for your convenience:) https://drive.google.com/file/d/1HwF4Kdvk_0SS7IYmCr1a3MTOFHsMtKiA/view

Also, make sure your child is documenting the minutes read on his/her reading log.

Sight words: Activity on SeeSaw:) Activity is due March 25th!

Math: Watch the youtube lesson before your child completes the lesson. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7O-ppI0bOY&list=PL7HCvHr8hotyV9fRD776HEyzip66QG9hx

Lessons this week are: Module 4: Lessons 37-40

**There will also be a subtraction activity to complete on seesaw, so I can assess how my students are doing in this weeks lessons<3

Go on Math Seeds for additional learning:)

Writing: Complete 1 writing prompt a day (5 total). Use 3 complete sentences. Here is a writing page to use for your convenience: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ec1Avl4cy-dk0AzdOUdt_f_qfjGYNeeB/view

As far as Extra Curricular, please visit the Haigh Staff link to find out what our specials teachers have planned for your child: https://haigh.dearbornschools.org/staff-contacts/

Parents, please work at your own pace. Please do what is best for you and your family. I know there is a lot of speculation about At Home Learning (home school) minutes not being counted, but congress and the Michigan Department of Education are STILL trying to come up with a plan for our students and teachers. My best advice for all of you is to keep your child(ren) learning while away from school! In my opinion, this is a win, win situation! Your child is still learning and you are keeping your child ahead of any type of learning slide. Also, if these minutes do end up counting, your child will be one step ahead of the game. I am here to support you. Lots of LOVE, Mrs. Fillmore

p.s, we are supposed to have some nice weather this week!! Bring the learning OUTSIDE when you can! xo

RAZ kids- I have had all but 4 students who logged into their reading this week. That is an 82% participation rate…I am ONE happy teacher! I have noticed some great reading minutes this week from 20 of my students! Keep up the great work at home and remember, students should be reading 20 minutes a day! Keep in mind RAZ kids is done 3 ways: Listen to the story, read the story and take a quiz. When your child is finished with their story, you should see 3 green check marks-I have posted a picture of what it should look like when your child is finished with a book:). While monitoring online, I have noticed that some students have not completed all 3 parts to each story, so please be aware of that when your child is on RAZ kids:) Thank you so much!

Seesaw- I love being able to see all of your hard work on Seesaw! I also love the video comments and pictures we all get to share with one another during this time away. Keep your eye out for a fun activity coming on Friday (tomorrow)- Seesaw Show ‘N Tell!! Woo hoo!

Seesaw Leprechaun drawing- 82% of my students completed a leprechaun drawing at home and took a picture of it! We have some great artist in room 42!!

Math seeds- We have had an 82% rate on math seeds as well this week, that means 20 students have been on Math Seeds! Keep up the great online learning at home…I am so proud of my families and students. I will also have some fun extension activities for your child to complete on seesaw in the upcoming weeks.

Reading Eggs- 62% of my students have been on reading eggs (15 students total)! In addition to RAZ kids, I can monitor your child’s reading activities and lessons on reading eggs as well! Another great program that Haigh offers to our families:)

We are currently working on setting up an additional day to pick up chrome books from Haigh. If your student needs a chrome book, then please complete the survey below. If you have already received a chrome book, then please do not take the survey again( we can only do 1 chrome book for each family that needs a computer at home). I will be sure to share out the date and time in the near future for the next chrome book pickup. We will need a few days to clean and prepare the chrome books prior to handing them out.
