Exploration Time!

Today we were able to dive into exploration time! Exploration time allows children to interact with one another, be creative, use their imagination, learn how to follow rules, build friendships and most importantly have F.U.N! We still have a long way to go in learning our classroom rules which are: 1. Looking Eyes 2. Hands to yourself 3. Inside Voices 4. Listening Ears 5. Walking Feet 7. Whole Body Listening and last but not least 8. Gentle Hands when playing with toys. Going over these rules at home will make for an easier and faster transition in the classroom for your child! I hope you and your child enjoy our pictures from today:) https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/13PcDdgPczkkNmO35MRmybJ1devZ7rMPa

Don’t forget to look through your child’s Everyday Folder that came home today, empty it out and return required paperwork on the side that says “Return to School.” Don’t forget, this folder comes to school Everyday! See everyone tomorrow:)

First Day Success/ Other Reminders!

Hello again:) We had a successful first day in Kindergarten Land! I wanted to touch base with all of you and give out a few reminders…

  1. Please look through your child’s back pack tonight and read through all the important information. Please return all required paperwork to me no later than Thursday, August 29th. Thank you for your cooperation!
  2. Make sure all school supplies are turned in at the end of the week as well:) A list of supplies is in the parent packet!
  3. I noticed a lot of students do not have a set of emergency clothes. Please make sure to bring in a set of clothes, inside a gallon zip lock bag, with your child’s name labeled on the bag and clothes! The extra clothes will help clean up any accidents your child may have in the classroom, in a timely manner:)
  4. We have snack time everyday! Please make sure to provide your child with a healthy snack and reusable water bottle each day. Also, please pack your child’s snack SEPARATE from their lunch. You may put the snack in a different compartment in their lunch box, or pack their snack in a zip lock baggie and place in their backpack. Many students get confused as to what is their snack, or what is their lunch, so by talking with your child about the difference, this will help them understand what they should be eating in the classroom for snack and what they should save for lunch. Thank you!
  5. Your child will be coming home with their “Everyday Folder” tomorrow. Please make sure to always look through your child’s folder each night and empty out their folder on the side that says “Keep at home.” All work completed in class must stay home and not returned the next day. This keeps for an organized folder and keeps everyone on the same page:) This folder is expected to come to school everyday and back home. Thank you!
  6. Our special schedule will be coming out shortly. Please keep your eye out for what days your child has gym class, etc.
  7. This week, Kindergarten has half days of school. Please make sure to pick your child up promptly at 11:40 a.m. each day!
  8. Next week lunch starts! This is a VERY BIG deal in Kindergarten land! If your child is getting a school lunch, they MUST know what option choice they are getting (option 1, 2 or 3). Please make sure to go over the lunch calendar with your child and discuss what option they will be eating. They need to be able to communicate their choice with their teacher when arriving to the classroom in the morning:). Thank you!
  9. I am still learning the wonderful faces of Room 42. Please be patient with me, especially at dismissal, when I am releasing your child to you. I have 23 parent faces to remember multiply that by grandparents, older siblings, etc. I promise I will get to know your face…it just takes some time<3 Thank you for your understanding.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email at fillmoa@dearbornschools.org me or text me on the RemindApp. Have a great night everyone! See you all bright and early tomorrow:)

Welcome NEW Families to the 2019/2020 School Year!

Hello Families and Welcome to our classroom blog!  Here you will find a ton of information about the classroom and our school.  Please take a moment to browse around and look at the different links I have provided for you under the “pages” heading.  I am so happy you are here!

A Few Things:

  • Please download and sign up for minute to minute to text updates, from the classroom, on the Remind App.  Here is the link and information needed to receive text messages straight from the classroom:) https://www.remind.com/join/mfillm
  • The school day starts at 8:35am!  Remember that the first week of school are half days.  Students will be dismissed at 11:40am promptly!  Please make arrangements for your child for the 1/2 days this week.  Thank you:)  Remember: NO school on Friday, August 30th!  School resumes Tuesday, September 3rd.
  • Please make sure to pack a healthy snack for your child EACH and every day and a reusable water bottle, with ONLY water inside.  Sending in a reusable water bottle will help aide in less spills and easy access for the students at their tables.  Juice is too sticky and messy, so I ask you only provide your child with water only.  Thank you for your cooperation in this matter!  Just a reminder, a snack will not be provided by the classroom teacher.
  • We area NUT FREE classroom, which means we do not allow: nuts, chickpeas cashews, walnuts, etc in the classroom. Please reiterate with your child that he or she will not be able to share snacks with friends in the classroom.  This will be something I reinforce everyday as well.  With that being said, we will not be able to have any outside food in the classroom for any occasion.  We will put our students, with allergies, at severe risk by doing so.  Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
  • Make sure to bring in all supplies the first day/week of school.  Also, please don’t forgot to provide your child with an emergency set of clothes (shirt, pants, socks, underwear, shoes) and make sure to label all of their clothing items!   You can find much more information in the welcome letter under the heading “Class Info.”  Here you will find all the information needed to make the first week a success!
  • If you ever have any questions, you can email me at fillmoa@dearbornschools.org or message me on the blog.
  • Please make sure to sign up for Mr. Short’s blog as well for updated and current information going on at Haigh! http://haigh.dearbornschools.org/
  • Parents: please come prepared on the first day to help sort all of the classroom supplies you purchased, walk your child around the classroom and show them their table, locker, the bathroom, etc  and last but not least; make sure to spoil your child with hugs and kisses before you leave:)  Please note, I will be sending a lot of paperwork home on the first day to be read thoroughly and will need all required paperwork back to me no later than Thursday, August 29th.  I can’t wait to meet all of you on Monday, August 26th:)

Thank you<3

Hello everyone,

I would just like to take a moment to thank all of my families for an incredible year!  It has been an absolute pleasure working alongside all of you, ensuring your child’s success together!  I will forever remember our time together and hope nothing but the best for your child in the future!  Thank you to all my families for your support and involvement all year long!  It means a lot<3

My wish for all of you this summer is to take time to relax, reflect and prepare your child to be successful for the years ahead!  We sure had a great thing this year and I will forever cherish our time together.  I am always an email away…Have a WONDERFUL summer!

Love, Mrs. Fillmore

“Summer  Packet”:  I saw this online and thought it was GREAT!  I revamped it a little and added some ideas as well:)  Enjoy!

  • Teach your child to tie their shoes.  Find a fun trick, watch a video, give an incentive and be persistent!
  • Keep bedtime in the routine!  If we keep our bodies in a routine with sleep, August won’t be so hard!
  • Choose a few family members or friends for your child to write a letter to this summer.  Ask your child to write in full, complete sentences,  use punctuation, spell sight words correctly, ask questions and give details!  Include an envelope with return address and a stamp in hopes someone will write back:)
  • Review the hard work your child did in school all year.  Review their art work, writing, and the memory books they made.  They will be proud to show you<3
  • Sit at the table and eat meals together.  Really watch your child in how he or she sits on the chair, is there food everywhere?  Are they using table manners?  Work on that!
  • Encourage kindnesses wherever your child goes!
  • Don’t rush to the rescue!  Our children need us, but they also need to learn how problem solve on their own!  Let them take the lead in how they resolve problems!
  • Read TO your child!  Please visit the local library and make books a part of your summer days!  Let your child hear your silly voices as you read, let them hear you read!  Make sure to ask them questions at the end of each story!
  • Try to stay away from technology as much as you can…live in the moments, they won’t last forever!
  • Visit the recreation department and have your child participate in one or many activities they will have throughout the city!
  • Have fun and stay safe this summer<3

Report cards will be going home tomorrow:)  Please send your child with a snack!
