Newsletter Week 10 (Recap and NEW Info)!
Reminder: This Friday, November 1st is a half day of school! Students will be dismissed promptly at 11:40a.m. Thank you
Our Glow Party will be on Friday, November 8th to celebrate our students being 50 days smarter! Thank you to all of my parents who have donated to make this day possible <3 You guys rock!
Reading Bags- Reading bags are coming home November 4th. How exciting! Your child should be reading each book in their bag, for homework each night, with guidance from an adult. My goal is to change out books bi-weekly, but if you notice your child has mastered the books ( retelling the story from beginning to end and can make connections), Reading Eggs and RAZ kids are great substitutions for more books:) Please use the 3 ways to read a book with your child at home: read the picture (picture power), read the words (pointer power) and retell the story. For your convenience, I have placed handouts inside your child’s reading bag for more activities/ resources to do at home with your child. Please make sure to color in 1 picture, for each day you read with your child, on the November reading log. At the end of the month, please turn in the reading log, so I can document your child’s reading at home and give them a hoot ticket:) I appreciate your support in helping your child become a successful, lifelong reader! Happy Reading:) These reading bags are to be brought to school EACH day for learning instruction in the classroom. Thank you!
What we did during our week:
Language Arts: This week we learned how to write, recognize and know the sounds of letters H & S! Next week, we will focus on letters I & R.
Writing: This week we learned how to write letters H & S inside the lines:). Please make sure your child is practicing at home how to write inside the lines; especially on their homework! Next week we will focus on letters I & R. We will also start Start Student writing in the classroom. This will consist of writing in a complete sentence and using punctuation at the end.
Math: This week we focused on Module 1: Lessons 32-34 . As you probably have noticed, we have come to the end of the first module! After some assessments in the classroom (to see how the students did with module 1), we will begin teaching Module 2 on November 6th, lessons 1-3. Wednesday we will do lesson 1, Thursday lesson 2 and so on. Please make sure you are following along in the Eureka math homework book and completing the lessons at home with your child:)
Science: For November, we will focus on weather elements.
Social Studies: For November, will will focus on needs and wants. Please talk to your child about the difference of things we need to survive and things we want.

If there is no school on Friday, the homework will be due on Thursday. Remember, reading with your child 15 minutes a night is also a part of our homework! You may use the reading websites (I sent home earlier this week), to complete the reading portion of homework as well:) In November, we will start having a monthly reading log sent home!

Housekeeping items:
- Please make sure to pack a healthy snack each day! No chips, juice, cookies are to be brought into the classroom. We are trying to promote healthy eating choices in the classroom! Even the teachers are eating healthy snacks with the students as well:)
- Make sure you provide your child with a NUT FREE snack. We are a NUT FREE classroom. Thank you for your cooperation!
- Please make sure to go through your child’s folder each night, look at your child’s work (see how they did), look at behavior, read any notes and sign in each day. Looking at your child’s work and behavior will give you an idea of how your child is doing in class. If your child is unable to complete any work in class, it will be sent home for homework and expected to be brought back the next day completed. Thank you for your cooperation!
- Be on the lookout for volunteer opportunities at Haigh via signupgenius.com. I’ll post a link to the blog for different opportunities to donate items to the classroom or to come and help out!
- Every Monday is library check out! Please make sure your child is returning his/her book so they can check out a new book for the week. If you misplace this book or lose it, there will be a cost for the missing book!
- Every Friday will be Kindergarten t-shirt day! We love being in the same shirts and showing our Kinder pride at Haigh! If your child forgets to wear their shirt, it’s ok, this is optional for everyone:)
