Newsletter Week 34 (Recap and NEW Info)!

Happy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful moms in Room 42!   Please make sure to look through your child’s backpack today. They have a special gift for you that they have worked so hard on all week❤️.

Reminder: Please make sure your child wears his/her YELLOW Kindergarten shirt on Monday, May 13th for our clean up parade!  Thank you:)

What we did during our week:

Language Arts: We will not have a spelling test next week.  At home, you will assess your child in sight word recognition and will study the highlighted words your child missed for the remainder of the week.  More information will be on the homework packet:)

Writing:   In May, we will focus on informational and narrative writing.

Math: This week we completed the last lessons in Module 6: lessons 1-5.   Next week we will complete Module 6: Lessons 6-8.  Please make sure you are completing the homework lessons with your child each night.  This is our last module for the year!  The rest of the year, please review all concepts learned thus far. 

Science:  For May, we will focus on the relationships between animals and their habitats.  

Social Studies:   For May, we will focus on democracy; identifying our country’s flag.

Other:

• • Our last sight word test and homework packet will be on Friday, May 17th.  We still ask that you read the books in your child’s reading bag and you hit the 20 minute reading goal each night with your child:)  Continue to work on the sight words as well! Reading bags will be collected at the end of May:)
  • Since we will not be doing homework packets anymore, you and your child are encouraged to visit the MAP links in reading and math during the weeks of May 13th-May 31st to better prepare your child for the test.  Please make sure your child is getting the appropriate amount of sleep and is eating a healthy breakfast during the month of May!
  • Every Friday we will wear our YELLOW Kindergarten t-shirts to show our Kinder pride at Haigh:)
  • Please consider buying something from our Scholastic Book Club at: https://clubs.scholastic.com/  Activation code: RKYTJ. The May date to order books will be May 31st.
  • Please make sure you provide your child with a NUT FREE snack.   We are a NUT FREE classroom. Thank you for your cooperation!

    • Please look over “upcoming events” on the blog!
    • Warmer weather is soon approaching, which means our classroom will become very warm as well!  Please make sure you dress your child appropriately for the hot, sunny days!  Please do not send your child to school with open toed shoes!  Thank you!
    • Continue to read the books in your child’s reading bag each day!  Reading bags will be collected at the end of May!

May 13th- NWEA testing begins!  Please use the sites I placed on the blog for review in Math and Reading!

May 13th- Clean up Parade!  Please make sure your child wears their YELLOW Kindergarten shirt!

May 15th- Late start!  Students arrive an hour later at 9:35 a.m.

May 24th- May 27th– NO SCHOOL!  

May 28th- School resumes

May 28th-May 31st- Spirit Week!  28th- summer hat/glasses day, 29th-backwards day, 30th- pj day, 31st- spirit day

May 31st- PBIS- board games and puzzles!

June 3rd-5th- NO SCHOOL!

June 6th- School resumes

June 10th- Field day (more information to follow)

June 13th- Kindergarten Celebration (more information to follow)!

June 14th- 1/2 Day- LAST DAY OF SCHOOL!  Students dismiss at 11:40am.  Have a nice summer:)
