Newsletter Week 12 (Recap and NEW Info)!
I would like to send a big thank you to all of my families for coming out to conferences and discussing your child’s progress and next steps with me! It has been an absolute pleasure getting to know all my families and my students on a more personal level. I believe, with a strong partnership between home and school, we will be able to accomplish wonderful things together this year. Again, I am thankful for all of you.
Next week will be a 2 day week. There will be NO homework and no library check out. Please make sure to catch up on anything we discussed at conferences with your child: letters/sounds, sight words, comprehension questions, reading, counting, writing, etc over break. Thank you for your continued support!
Monday is Tumblebus Day! Please dress your child just as you would for gym class:) Thank you!
Turkey Learning: We have been learning a lot about Turkeys these past 2 weeks. We completed a R.A.N, took the facts that we learned from the non fiction story we read and wrote them down on a “Can/Have/Are” chart, we labeled the parts of a turkey and finally completed our Thankful Turkey project. We have a lot of Thankful Turkeys in Room 42<3
What we did during our week:
Language Arts: We had a fun week learning about letters J & Q. We learned the letter name, words that start with each letter and the sound each letter makes. Next week we will focus on letters and sounds learned thus far.
Writing: We will begin to learn about sentence structure in the classroom. The students will learn that every sentence starts with an uppercase letter, meatball spaces and a punctuation at the end of each sentence. Please practice this strategy at home as well with your child. Thank you!
Math: This week we completed Model 2, Lessons 1-5. Next week we will complete lessons 6-7.
Science: For November, we will learn about types of weather.
Social Studies: For November, we will learn about Needs and Wants.

Other:
- Reading bags have launched in Kindergarten! Just to reiterate, these bags come home and come back to school every, single day. Please keep the books inside the book bag. We use these bags during Daily 5 instruction. Please read these books at home with your child, and have them work on reading the books independently. We are working on one-to-one finger pointing. This mean that they should be pointing to each word as they read it. We are also working on reading words from left to right, using picture clues to help with “unknown” words, spotting sight words easily in text, stretching sounds out when coming to an unknown word and also retelling the story using the retell rope method! Make sure to jot down your child’s reading in the reading log each night! Thank you:)
- Please consider buying something from our Scholastic Book Club at: https://clubs.scholastic.com/ Activation code: RKYTJ. The November orders are due by November 26th. There are a lot of great books for your child at a very reasonable price and FREE shipping. Books make for a great gift or even for a family story night:) Thank you to Ethan for purchasing something from our book club!
- Please make sure you are reviewing your child’s classwork each night. Monitoring your child’s classwork is a great indicator of how your child is doing in the class. If for some reason your child doesn’t finish his/her classwork in class, I will send it home for homework to be completed at home and returned the next day. Thank you for your support!
- Please make sure you provide your child with a NUT FREE snack. We are a NUT FREE classroom. Thank you for your cooperation!
Housekeeping items:
- Monday is our library check out date. I have a handful of students who do not bring in their books, which in turn leaves a very sad child without a new book for the week. If the book is not returned, there will be a cost the parent will have to pay. Please keep the library book in a safe place at home, or you can leave it in your child’s backpack until the next check out. Remember: Every monday is our library check out. Thank you!
- The cold/winter season is upon us, which means cooler temperatures! With cooler temperatures comes coats, boots, hats, scarves, gloves, etc. It is important to teach your child how to properly put on a coat, zip up a coat, unzip the coat and take the coat off. We have a handful of students who constantly need help putting on their coats etc, which means more time is taken away from recess because the teacher is zipping up 24 coats! Also, please continue to practice tying shoes with your child. It is very hard to tie 2 pair of shoes X 24 students a day! That equals 48 shoes a day I would be tying, which would take up a lot of time during large and small group instruction. We are encouraging students to become independent learners and with independence takes a lot of dedication and teaching your child at home. Thank you for your cooperation:)
- If your child is bringing a home lunch, it is OK to pack a juice for the lunchroom! Remember to pack a water bottle each day for the classroom:)
- Please pack your child’s snack SEPARATELY from your child’s home lunch. This will help your child become less confused about what is for lunch and what is for snack. Thank you:)
- Great news! The PTA has a blog for all sorts of fun information going on in the school. I may not have a lot of opportunities for all families to volunteer in the classroom, but the PTA is ALWAYS looking for extra hands to help in the school. Please take a look at their blog and sign up for the fun events they may need help with:) https://parents.dearbornschools.org/haigh/
