Newsletter Week 6 (Recap and NEW Info)!

What we did during our week:

Language Arts: We had a fun week learning about letters D & W.  We learned the letter name, words that start with each letter and the sound each letter makes.  Next week we will focus on letters E and V:)

Writing:    In writing, we are learning how to label our pictures!  Make sure to practice this at home as well:)

Math:  We worked on lessons 14-16 in the classroom. Next week we will complete lessons 17-19.  

Science: For October, we will learn about push & pull.

Social Studies:  For October, we will learn what it means to be a responsible citizen in our school/community:)

Halloween Celebration Note:  

Dear Families, Our Halloween celebration will be on Wednesday October 31st,  which means excited kids and parents too:)  With all the excitement, we are listing the expectations for the day.  Since we have seen an influx of food allergies in all the Kindergarten classrooms, we are asking families not to send your child with any treats to pass out to his/her friends.  If by accident, your child sends a treat to school, we will kindly place it back in your child’s backpack to take home.  Students are able to wear costumes for the day…YAY! We just ask that your child does not bring to school any weapons/wands/masks, accessories with the costume.  If these are brought, we will kindly place them back into their backpacks.  We encourage each and every family to practice with your child how to put on and take off your child’s costume since they will be in this costume throughout the duration of the school day.  Make sure your child is in his/her costume at drop off! We will have a jam packed day, so the less disruptions the better:)

The Haigh Halloween parade will take place at 2:30 p.m.  We encourage families to come out and watch the parade that will take place outside.  There is no need to come into the building. We hope we answered some questions for this fun, filled day!

Donors Choose Project:  Our wobble stools are here and ready for us to use.  I am still looking for the parent(s) who purchased these wobble stools, so I can personally thank them:)  We are going to love them for small group instruction!

Classroom Celebration Fund:

Thank you to the following families for bringing in a donation to our classroom fund: Noor S., Giana, Gabe, Hussein, Cooper, Issa, Jude, Ave, Isra, Yusuf, Thomas, Ryan, Hassan, Noor A., Ethan,  and Jenin!  It’s not too late to bring in your donation!  We have only received donations from half of our families.  We have a lot of great things planned this year, but can only do it, if we have as many possible participate in giving the donation:)  Thank you for considering!  Also, if you would like to be added to our volunteer rotation (for classroom parties), please email Ms. Nikki at nfoley@jaffelaw.com and she will gladly add you to the list.  Thank you!

Other:

• Please consider buying something from our Scholastic Book Club at: https://clubs.scholastic.com/  Activation code: RKYTJ.  The October orders are due by October 29th.  There are a lot of great books for your child at a very reasonable price and FREE shipping.  Books make for a great gift or even for a family story night:)
• Please make sure you are reviewing your child’s classwork each night.  Monitoring your child’s classwork is a great indicator of how your child is doing in the class. If for some reason your child doesn’t finish his/her classwork in class, I will send it home for homework to be completed at home and returned the next day.  Thank you for your support!
• Please make sure you are logging onto Reading Eggs/ RAZ Kids & Mathseeds frequently.   Please teach your child how to independently log onto these sites on their own. They will learn how to type their username/password in the classroom, so if you could help me out at home with using the same method, I would greatly appreciate it!  We are super lucky that our school has purchased these learning programs for our students at Haigh. I hope every family utilizes these sites often:)

Housekeeping items:

• • If you send money in for your child’s school lunch, please place his/her money in an envelope, label your child’s first and last name on the envelope, my name (Mrs. Fillmore) and what the money’s for.  The lunch ladies have a lot of money to go through on a daily basis, so using this easy method will help with any confusion. We will also you this method for any field trips we may have during the school year.
  • If your child is bringing a home lunch, it is OK to pack a juice for the lunchroom!  Remember to pack a water bottle each day for the classroom:)
  • Please pack your child’s snack SEPARATELY from your child’s home lunch.  This will help your child become less confused about what is for lunch and what is for snack.  Thank you:)
  • Great news!  The PTA has a blog for all sorts of fun information going on in the school.  I may not have a lot of opportunities for all families to volunteer in the classroom, but the PTA is ALWAYS looking for extra hands to help in the school.  Please take a look at their blog and sign up for the fun events they may need help with:)  https://parents.dearbornschools.org/haigh/

Halloween Center F.U.N!   Whoever said learning has to be boring??  In Kindergarten, we are learning during our workshops and building on skills we are working on in the classroom.  We hope you enjoy the pictures…the kids loved our new October centers!
