Since this is our first “official” newsletter, please make sure to read in its entirety, there is a lot of important information. Thank you!
What we did during our week:
Language Arts: We have been learning the letters to our first and last name. Next week we will focus on letters A and Z:)
Daily 5: We have been working hard during one of our Daily 5 rotations called “Word Work.” Next week we will learn about “Work on Writing and Read to Self” during our Daily 5 block:) Here are some pictures of the students working during “Word Work.” Enjoy:)
Writing: In writing, we are learning how to write our names correctly, inside the lines. THis will be something we focus on for a couple weeks.

Homework: Next week we are kicking off a world of learning in Kindergarten! With learning comes extension activities to do at home with your child to better prepare them for Kindergarten and beyond. Every Monday, your child will come home with a homework packet. Your child will have a reading log to complete each night, a language art worksheet to complete each night and a homework assignment in their Eureka Math Succeed workbook each night as well. Every Friday, your child’s homework packet is due, but they will keep their SUCCEED book at home with them. You will not bring the succeed workbook back to school. It will stay at home throughout the whole school year. Dearborn Public Schools purchased a new math curriculum this year, so this will be a learning experience for all of us:) The SUCCEED workbook will be coming home with your child on Monday with instructions. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Open House: You are invited to open house on September 13th, 2018 from 6-7:30pm. The purpose of Open House is for your child to show you around the classroom and the school. This will allow for you to see where your child goes to gym, art, music and where they eat lunch in the cafeteria. With open house being only a couple weeks into school and for confidentiality reasons, please save all questions about your child’s progress for conferences, which will be at a later time. There will be sign up sheets, in the classroom, for Parent Teacher Conferences in November. Conferences are the time where we can talk together all about your child and how they are doing so far. Thank you so much for your cooperation. We look forward to meeting you at Open House and getting your child excited about school!
Donors Choose Project: Parents, I am need of your HELP! I started a donors choose project to raise money to buy wobble stools for your child at small group! My students could really benefit from wobble stools to help aid in the active child for small group learning! Sometimes, students are at small groups for 10 minutes or more and we tend to see a lot more fidgety students after the 10 minute mark. Reading, writing, mathematics, science and social studies can be less of a stress, if the students can “wobble” and learn at the same time! Please help me and the students of Haigh to make small group learning fun and enjoyable for every child! We would greatly appreciate it if you donated towards our project! Please consider donating…any amount can and will help our children. Thank you! https://www.donorschoose.org/we-teach/5452723?cachebust=1536162590042

Here’s how:
To order online, connect to our class using our Class Code (RKYTJ)
Bonus: This month, you can pick a FREE Book (up to $5) when you place an online order of $25 or more!
As soon as your order is delivered to our classroom, I will send it home with your child.
Plus every order you place earns FREE Books for our class to share.
Happy Reading, Mrs. Fillmore
Other:
- Please consider buying something from our Scholastic Book Club at: scholastic.com/bookclubs Activation code: RKYTJ. The September orders are due by September 24th. There are a lot of great books for your child at a very reasonable price and FREE shipping. Books make for a great gift or even for a family story night:)
- Next week I will be sending home your child’s login for RAZ kids and Reading Eggs. Please have your child visit these sites in addition to their homework that is starting next week. Or, these FREE educational sites would be perfect for weekend learning:) Please teach your child how to independently log onto these sites on their own. They will learn how to type their username/password in the classroom, so if you could help me out at home with using the same method, I would greatly appreciate it! We are super lucky that our school has purchased these learning programs for our students at Haigh. I hope every family utilizes these sites frequently:)
- I am still learning all the wonderful parent faces of Room 42. I have multiple family members that I need to remember, multiply that by 24 students, it sure is a lot of faces to remember. I promise you, that I will know your face by the end of September (or sooner I am hoping;)) I really appreciate your understanding and patience!
- Please make sure to sign up for the Remind App for up to date texts from the classroom:) Here is how you sign up: Remind App. Here is the link and information needed to receive text messages straight from the classroom:) https://www.remind.com/join/mfillm
Housekeeping items:
-
- If you send money in for your child’s school lunch, please place his/her money in an envelope, label your child’s first and last name on the envelope, my name (Mrs. Fillmore) and what the money’s for. The lunch ladies have a lot of money to go through on a daily basis, so using this easy method will help with any confusion. We will also you this method for any field trips we may have during the school year.
- If your child is bringing a home lunch, it is OK to pack a juice for the lunchroom! Remember to pack a water bottle each day for the classroom:)
- Please pack your child’s snack SEPARATELY from your child’s home lunch. This will help your child become less confused about what is for lunch and what is for snack. Thank you:)
- Please read my latest blog post about shoe tying in the classroom. Thank you!
- Please make sure you are aware of what days we have for specials. I revised our specials under the link “Special Schedule.”
