Newsletter Week 26 (Recap and NEW Info)!
PBIS
:
This month our PBIS party will be all about games! Your child may choose to bring in a game from home or an electronic device to play on during the party. If your child does not have a game they want to bring to school, we have activities they may play with in class. If you do choose to send a game to school with your child, please label everything with your child’s name. Small items are easily lost, please think about what would be an appropriate game to send in with your child, as they will be responsible for whatever they choose to bring to school. Please send one game to school with your child on Thursday, March 29th.
Thank you!
What we did during our week:
Language Arts: We worked on -ad words and onset and rime. We have officially learned all the letters of the alphabet! Spelling words to study for next week: List 13: did, what, mom, red, fed, wed, led, bed, sled. Please practice the extra cold -ed words, as there will be a cold word for number 10 on the test! Extra words: sped. Our 13th test will be Thursday, March 29th.
Writing: In writing, we finished our star student book and are doing some more narrative writing in March! The 4 main components of narrative writing are: It’s written by the character, it’s written about real life events, it’s written in sequential order: first, next and last and lastly, it’s written with feelings.
Math: We will continue to talk about subtraction and addition and greater than/less than. We have a little bit of everything during our math workshop: greater than/less than, count the room, smash it! subtraction, addition, missing numbers, etc.
Math Quizzes: We have a math quiz on Thursday, March 29th on math facts -1! Please make the flashcards at home for your child to help them prepare for their math quiz. For extra practice at home (instead of the flash cards), you could also use counters (or food) for a visual representation of the math equation for your child. You can also practice with your child by having them put the big number in their head and the small number on their hands and then count up. Try to make it fun! Thank you for supporting your child with their addition skills!
Science: All 23 students were assessed on Arctic Animals/Habitat. 22 students scored an 80% or higher:) For the months of April-June we will move into Ocean Animals! We are excited to start this unit!
Social Studies: We are having fun learning about maps and drawing maps! In April we will learn about Civics and Government.
March is Reading Month: Your child came home with a “Paws for Reading” packet. In this packet is a special calendar with all kinds of exciting reading activities you can do at home with your child! Also, you will see a 2018 March Reading Log to keep track of your child’s reading minutes at home. Each child who returns their reading log by Wednesday, April 11th will earn a special prize, if they have reached their recommended reading goal for the month. The Kindergarten reading goal is 20 minutes per day...I know we can do it! Make sure to jot the minutes down on the reading log calendar and on the homework as well:)
Other:
- Alessandra (Bianca’s sister) Ms. Maria, Ms. Heba, Layla (Ameena’s sister), Ali’s sister and Ms. Zeinab were our guest readers for the week! We loved having them in the classroom and reading to us<3 Thank you ladies!
- There will be NO SCHOOL on Friday, March 30th- Friday, April 6th for spring break. School resumes, Monday, April 9th. Enjoy your break!
- Out of 21 students today, who took the spelling test, 19 received a 100% and 2 students only missed 1 to 2 words!! This is a TOTAL victory! Way to go to my students and parents who worked so hard to ensure their child was successful for the Friday spelling test! I will send the booklet home on Monday for you all to see how your child did:). Remember, to look over your child’s spelling test booklet, sign on the line and return the booklet in the green folder the very next day (TUESDAY)! It is imperative I receive them all back the next day! Thank you!
- Out of 21 students today, we had 21 students receive a 100% on their math quiz -0! WOW!! If your child is not performing at 70% or above, I suggest making flash cards for your child to practice at home with! Way to go to my 21 students. I am so proud of you!!
Housekeeping items:
-
- If your child’s green folder is falling apart, please use some packaging tape to put the folder back together, or please purchase another green folder for you child. Some folders are torn in half and is difficult to place work and or important notes in your child’s folder. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter!
- On Gym Days (Thursday and Friday), please make sure to send your child to school in Gym Shoes! Mr. Peecher will have the kids sit on the stage if they are not wearing appropriate gym attire. Your child’s safety is our main priority. Thank you!
- Parents, I need your help! When you send in money for your child, whether it be for lunch, lunchroom snacks, field trip, please enclose the money in an ENVELOPE with your child’s FIRST and LAST name on the front, indicate what the money is for and write my name as well: Mrs. Fillmore. This will cause for less confusion for the lunch room and for the classroom. Thank you!
- Please make sure to log onto math seeds and reading eggs when there is downtime at home, especially on the weekends! I have laminated and attached logins/passwords for EACH child on their communication log this week! Please keep this in a safe place, so it doesn’t get lost. These programs are free for you to use, how awesome is that? All you need to do is to show your child how to log in and they can begin learning! Parents, in the classroom, I am trying to teach each child to login typing their own username and password…independence is the name of the game! If you could be so kind, to help your child do the same at home, it would help so much! Thank you!
- New library books came home today! April 13th will be our next library check out date! Enjoy the new book with your child!
Rain Forest LIVE: Here are a few picture from our Rain Forest Live Assembly. The kids loved seeing the different animals from the rain forest and learning about how we can protect our rain forest and animals that live there! Enjoy the pictures:)
