Boat Designing 101

Sometimes pennies want to go sailing too. The students in Mrs. Donelson’s class were assigned with the STEM based task of designing a boat for their little copper friends.

The Process

  • Students had to develop two boat designs that would support 20 pennies
  • They had to list their materials and the properties of each material
  • Designs needed to be shared and collaborated on with a partner
  • Finally, the boat was created
  • Students learned through the process of trial and error

“You try, you fail, you try, you fail…but the only true failure is when you stop trying.” -Madame Leota from Disney’s the Haunted Mansion
