Hello families!
I hope everyone is becoming a bit more acclimated to our new lifestyle and was able to relax over Spring Break. While we’ve been away, the district has been looking at incredible remote learning plans and research. The following chart is broken down with a minimum and maximum learning time for each grade level. You will notice that for first grade, students should be working on school work at home for a minimum of 45 minutes a day and a maximum of 90 minutes a day. It also reminds parents that the average attention span of a first grader is between 5-10 minutes. It’s important that we follow these guidelines and give the kids, and ourselves a break.
Using this data, I will be changing the format of my weekly lesson plans. The 90 minutes a day will focus on reading, writing and math. I will supply additional enrichment activities for science and/or social studies each week, but the main focus should be on reading, writing and math. This is what is going to make the biggest difference for our kids.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.
