Spelling

We work on word pattern by hearing and recording sounds in words.  We also identify when patterns do not match the way they sound.  We practice the words for the week.   We call these words HOT WORDS.  Your child should know the pattern and be able to apply it to new words.  We will have 6 hot words each week.  Your child will also have to spell 4 COLD WORDS based on the learned and practiced patterns.  Your child will not be given the cold words before the test.

How can you help at home?  Practice the hot words too and then practice words that use the same pattern as the hot words.

We will also get 5 high frequency Dolch words for the week.  These words do not follow a spelling pattern.  They need to be practiced/memorized and applied during all writing at school and at home.
