Here comes another fun family project!! Our current math unit is focused on Geometry. The kids are doing a great job and are coming into each lesson already knowing a lot of the material. To challenge all of the students, I am sending a letter home today about a Shape Robot Project! This project involves the kids finding different 2D and 3D shapes around the house, outside, from your work, wherever! They are to use these shapes/objects to build their own shape robot! There are no guidelines in terms of what the robot must include or have. The goal of this project is for the kids to see that shapes are all around us and different shapes come together to create something new. For example, a rectangle and a cylinder come together to make a flag. These are things the kids see everyday but don’t often think about. The goal of this project is to get the kids to see how everyday shapes are so important to us and why we need certain shapes to create certain things, and of course to HAVE FUN!!!
Here are some pictures of shape robots from the past:

The children will be presenting their shape robot to the class, so make sure they know the names of the shapes they used to create their robot. Of course I will be here to help if they get stuck. We will be discussing the shapes they used as well as how they constructed their robot (why did they use certain shapes for certain body parts? how did they get things to stick together?).
Shape robots are due on Friday, April 8th.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask
Thanks,
Mrs. Donelson
