The Quizlet due today (T. 3/17) at 2 pm concludes the assignments we were already doing in-class.

Starting TOMORROW (Wed. 3/18), we will shift gears into our new “for now” format. Expect regular updates via iBlog, primarily, but also through Remind. Google Classroom may be used to give further directions/turn-in assignments. iLearn will remain our “online classroom” in terms of text and video resources. Good Job staying on top of things, everyone!

I will track your assignments in Student/Parent Connect and you should also check for accuracy. This is new for ALL of us, and we must be patient with one another.

We will stay with Unit 7 (Chpts 18/19): The Cold War 1950s. You know the Vocab (TEST POSTPONED UNTIL BACK IN-PERSON). Now, you will watch the videos, read a bit more, and take short quizzes that demonstrate comprehension. ALL of this is available on iLearn, but I will post links here, as well, and DUE DATES!

Hello to ALL, and welcome! As we begin to learn together in a new way (for now), I am sure you all have questions. I will do my best to address and answer them all.

As always, stay patient. Stay kind. And we will do the best we can, together, as we navigate our way through a truly HISTORY-MAKING moment in time.

Above all, be well. And continue to do your work/stay smart. Our brains will thank us for it, in the long-run!

  • Who was the nation’s leading Labor Leader who was known for leading protests against racial discrimination in Industry and the Military?

  • Who was the U.S. General that led Operation Torch in North Africa, which was a big victory for the Allies and led to him being elected the 33rd President of the United States in 1953?
  • The day of June 6, 1944-the Allies began the invasion of Europe by “liberating” France.
  • A month long battle fought in the Allies’ territory between Great Britain/France and Germany. In a last effort to retain control of Europe, Hitler’s forces created a “bulge” in the Allies’ front. The fighting was bloody and lasted one month, in which the Nazi forces lost soldiers and weapons they could not replace. The Allies could, as the US had entered the war and was mobilizing its economy. Because of the efforts of US soldiers (like Mrs. Brewer’s grandpa), the Nazis had no choice but to retreat.
  • The day of May 8th, 1945-Victory in Europe day in which the war in Europe officially ended with an Allies victory against German (Axis) forces.
  • Who was FDR’s Vice President that became the 33rd President of the U.S. following Roosevelt’s death?

  • Who was the American scientist that directed research for the Manhattan Project?
  • After Emperor Tojo refused to surrender, Truman authorized the bombing of this important Japanese military center. The US plane Enola Gay dropped the atomic bomb “Little Boy,’ leveling the city and creating a wide radius of radiation.
  • The second city targeted after Japan’s leaders still refused to surrender. Enola Gay dropped “Fat Man,” resulting in half of the city’s destruction and 200,000 deaths due to injury and radiation poisoning.
  • After discovering the horrors of the Holocaust, the Allies put 24 surviving Nazi leaders on trial for crimes against humanity and other war crimes.
  • What was the law passed in 1944 to help ease the transition of Veterans returning home to the US from war that provided free education/training, and affordable housing/farm/business loans for veterans?
  • What was the Government Order that called for the confinement of 110,000 Japanese Americans to “relocation centers” (prison camps).

Good Luck!
