Students March To Show #TheRealDearborn

This information is being provided by Mary Beth Mayler via Dearborn Public Schools

WHEN:
Monday, January 18, 2016 at 12-Noon

WHAT: Peace March organized by students to show #TheRealDearborn

WHERE: March will start at the corner of Greenfield Road & Michigan Avenue and proceed west along the sidewalk of Michigan Ave to the City of Dearborn Administration Center (new City Hall), 16901 Michigan Avenue, Dearborn, 48124.

Those planning on attending should park in the public parking lot located on the south side of the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center, 15801 Michigan Avenue. The lot can be accessed from Greenfield Road or from Michigan Avenue.

WHY: Students from Dearborn, Edsel Ford, Fordson, and Divine Child High School were frustrated with images and reports that often portray a distorted and negative image of the city. The group created and organized #TheRealDearborn March as way to celebrate and show Dearborn’s historic diversity, rich culture, and united community.

The group has also created Twitter and Instagram accounts promoting the January 18 #TheRealDearborn March. People are invited to post photos and comments @RealDearborn.

CONTACT: For more information about how you or your organization can take part in the January 18th  #TheRealDearborn March, please contact Edsel Ford High School Social Worker Ms. Violet Souweidane at souweiv@dearbornschools.org

Energy Paper Research Project

Students have been researching in class an energy type of their choice. The choices are:

  1. Mechanical
  2. Electrical
  3. Light
  4. Thermal
  5. Sound
  6. Chemical
  7. Nuclear

Students were to bring home their research form & complete any missing parts over the weekend.

We will start writing in class on Monday. Students who don’t have research will not be able to start their paper & will be behind.

Research can be done at home using a computer, laptop, iPad, tablet, etc. or you can visit the library to use the computers & internet there. For library hours: https://dearbornlibrary.org/

Science Research for Energy Informational Writing <– here is the research form we have been using in class. Each student was to bring theirs home over the weekend.

Multiplication Facts

We have been testing multiplication facts in class this week. Students should know their facts 0-12 by memory. Knowing these facts is vital to daily math work. Students who don’t know their math facts struggle with the rest of the work because they have to stop & complete each multiplication problem before being able to do the bigger problem. For example: 26 x 4, if a student doesn’t know 4 x 6 & 4 x 2 this problem could take a very long time to figure out.

> Each student has the multiplication tables written out at the back of their math journal.

> Each student has multiplication flashcards 11 & 12 in their desk.

>> Students may bring both items home to help create materials to study with at home. However, math journals & flashcards must be returned to school the next day.

Students can also practice via Mobymax.com under Math Facts.

Mitten Tree!

A reminder from Mrs. Suarez:
Happy New Year!!! Happy Monday!!!!
Would you please remind your students that this week is the last week to collect mittens, hats, socks, and scarves for the mitten tree.  We’ll be taking the items to Starfish Family Services next week.
Thanks!
