If your construction paper isn’t looking too good after traveling home in your binder, you’re welcome to go to the Dollar Store (or wherever) and get a poster board and fold it in half to use for your project!

Dear Families, September 2017
Welcome to the four grade! I am looking forward to an exciting year. I hope to work closely with each family.
Communication –It is important that we keep the lines of communication open. Please check your child’s planner everyday, in the planner you will find a list of ALL the work we did that day. If it is not complete it will have the initials H/W with a circle around it for homework. By listing ALL the assignments that we did in class allows you to have a general idea of what we are studying or working on so you can ask your student specific questions about it. I will check planners before students leave each day. I ask you to look at and sign your child’s planner every day too. Feel free to write notes in the planner if you have questions. You may also email me any time!
I will encourage you and your child to log onto the classroom blog and Class Dojo. I will have students begin logging on in class and learning how to navigate the sites so they can show you at home. We will be using google classroom and drive, both are an application that can be used anywhere in the world on any device. It will be helpful to dowload the app on your device and then have your student’s school gmail account to get it working from home. On the app you will have information on assignments and classroom news. Students can even get copies of assignments and see the daily planner snapshot!
Homework – Please have your child read for 40 minutes and practice math facts using flashcards for 15 minutes every evening. Your child will sometimes have homework outside of reading and math facts. Please stress the importance of completing homework assignments neatly, carefully, and turning them when they are due. Again, look for an H/W in the planner.
Snack – It is essential to keep your child alert and motivated throughout the school day. Students will be encouraged to have a healthy snack (fruit, vegetables, crackers, cheese, dry cereal, etc.) The opportunity to eat snack will be given while we are still learning and working so there is no time to stop to wash, peel, or prepare snacks. Please DO NOT send cookies, cupcakes, fruit snacks, or fruit drinks. Your child may bring a refillable water bottle to school each day fill with water only.
→ Please see the orange Week at a Glance for students – Google Docs that is in your child’s binder. I tried to list out and organize as many of the weekly assignments as possible to help keep students (and families) organized.
